Claude Eksteen (Durban North) secured his 11th Fedhealth IMPI Elite Race victory on Saturday, 16 June 2018 crossing the finish line at Virginia Trails (Eston, KZN) in a deserving time of 01 hour 54 minutes 27 seconds.   Nadene Cahill (Westville, KZN) claimed top honours in the women’s race.

“I love the IMPI Challenge,” said Eksteen.  “I just could not miss a local race.  Today’s course was tough.  To have so many Merchants athletes (trained by Marin Dreyer) out on route definitely made it tougher.  They are always pushing and make for great competition.  The IMPI Challenge is known for its tough running route.  Race Director, Pieter du Plessis loves to include hills and awesome trails.  I didn’t, however, expect the cinder block carry to be followed by a pole drag and then a sand bag carry.  That was tough.  I’ve lined up for eleven Fedhealth IMPI Elite Races and have won them all.  It feels great.”

Mxolisi Zondi came in second, while Hlelani Radebe finished third.

Women’s Elite Race winner, Nadene Cahill celebrated her Fedhealth IMPI Elite Race debut on the day.  “I’ve been taking part in obstacle course races for the last year and a half.  I’ve wanted to take part in IMPI for a while but this is the first time that it takes place in KZN.  I definitely plan on taking part in more IMPI races as it was a lot of fun.  The trails were amazing – hilly but beautiful.  The obstacles are challenging.  My team mates warned me beforehand that the IMPI Challenge is renowned for its heavy carries.   These were tough, but enjoyable.”

“I knew that the competition would be tough,” continues Cahill.  “My coach is Trish Eksteen.  She wins all these races, and also competed today.  I caught her at one of the “pull” obstacles.   Being so light she struggled with the obstacle.  Crossing the finish line ahead of Trish felt so surreal.  I kept looking behind me, expecting her to catch me.  Taking the win today is a real honour.”

Cahill completed the Fedhealth IMPI Elite Race #2 in 02 hours 29 minutes 01 seconds.  Trish Eksteen came in second, while Lisha Sookun finished third.

The Fedhealth IMPI Elite Race #2 consisted of a 22km trail run route that boasted 24 obstacles varying in difficulty.
