The FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN continues to enjoy tremendous runner support for the event’s three charities with a whopping combined total of R86 640 raised (after the 2017 event) for the Reach For A Dream Foundation (R23 695), the Johannesburg SPCA (R50 780) and the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation (R12 165).

“Raising R86 640 for three worthy causes is no small feat,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director Stillwater Sports.  “We are thankful to each and every runner for choosing to support either or all three our event charities.  The donations will go a long way in ensuring the continuation of their selfless work.  We are inspired now, more than ever, to ensure that our 2018 event surpasses previous experiences on National Heritage Day (Monday, 24 September 2018).  Runners are invited to #RunJoburgYourWay.”

The Reach For A Dream Foundation (RFAD) was established in 1988 and believes in the power of dreams.  RFAD encourages children to use their dreams to fight life-threatening illnesses.

“It means a great deal to the Foundation and its children to be associated with such a prestigious event,” says Chloe Mpinga, Business Development Manager at RFAD.  “We believe in the power of hope and what it can do in a person’s life.  The donation received in 2017 will enable the Foundation to realize the dreams of at least 5 children who are suffering from a life-threating illness.  There is no dream too big or too small.  We will work tirelessly to ensure that we can make each dream a reality.  RFAD will definitely be visible at the 2018 event.  This year we would like our activation to be more interactive and fun to get people excited about donating towards RFAD.  We will also be on the start line, joining in on the fun.  Our dream children are eternally grateful for the continued support.”

The Johannesburg SPCA is a non- profit organisation that started operating in 1902 and is dependent on the kindness and support of individuals and companies.

“We are thankful to FNB and the event organisers for choosing our organisation as a beneficiary,” says Ronald Ramalata, Manager/Senior Inspector Johannesburg SPCA.  “It is an honour to be part of this wonderful initiative.  We absolutely enjoyed the 2017 event.  The funds received will go toward our outreach programme as this is the core function for our organisation, to assist with sterilisation.  We look forward to making new friends at the 2018 event.  Be sure to visit our activation at race pack collection where you can purchase some great SPCA memorabilia.”

There are many areas in which the Johannesburg SPCA can be assisted, from volunteers to donations of items such as plastic beds for the animals to sleep in, toys for all the animals, blankets and food or by making a monetary donation.  For further information please visit:  www.jhbspca.co.za

Founded in 1985 the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation is dedicated to the exploration, documentation, protection and restoration of Johannesburg’s built heritage.   According to Brett McDougall of the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation, it is an honour to be an official charity for the 3rd year running.  “Donations received in the previous two years have allowed us to extend world-class heritage education outside of the classroom environment to 200 learners from non-fee paying schools.  I personally participated in the 2017 event. It was exceptionally well organised, and I loved running through the historic City that we have fought so hard to protect and promote.  Donations received will be applied to our education programme.  The easiest way to be a part of the work that we do is to become a member.  We can’t wait to be part of the 2018 event experience.”
