A number of Durban’s leading performing arts groups will be seen in action performing for runners at the inaugural FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN on Sunday, 08 October 2017.

Leading performing arts groups to look out for on event day will include:  the Amabhubesi Traditional Zula Dance Group, the Durban Girls’ High School Majorettes and the Durban Regiment Pipe Band to mention just a few.

“We are excited to be part of the inaugural FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN,” says Mpumelelo Sibisi of the Amabhubesi Traditional Zula Dance Group.  “All our members are from the KwaMashu Township and have been performing together for the past 15 years.  The team competed at the South African Championships of Performing Arts in 2009 where they claimed four gold medals.  Runners will be treated to passionate and energetic dance performances on race day.”

KZN’s top majorette high school, Durban Girls’ High School Majorettes will also form part of the excitement on the day.  “Our team has been running since the early 1990s and has just placed 4th in South Africa during the 2017 National Championships,” says Keith Alho, Durban Girls’ High School Majorettes Coach.  “We can’t wait to be part of the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN.  We’re looking forward to cheering on the runners, while providing some serious entertainment on route.”

Runners (and walkers) will also be treated to nostalgic performances by the Durban Regiment Pipe Band.  “The Durban Regiment Pipe Band plays the Scottish Great Highland Bagpipe accompanied by drums,” says Ken Mustard, Pipe Major/Durban Regiment Pipe Band.  “The band is a member of the Pipe Bands Association of Southern Africa and regularly competes in pipe band competitions.  We’re excited to be part of an iconic event that honours the city of Durban.  Runners can look forward to a performance like no other.”
