Collin Kanyimo (Pretoria East) and Nicolette Griffioen (Lanseria) were in peak form on Sunday 05 June 2022 at the iconic Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run, claiming gold in the Long Route (+-24km) at the ATKV Buffelspoort in fantastic times of 01 hour 27 minutes 18 seconds and 01 hour 56 minutes 31 seconds respectively.

“The Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run was nice, I really enjoyed it,” says Kanyimo. “It was tough, especially when we went through the water crossings. It was cold, but after we did some climbing, I was warm again and then I started pushing the pace. This is the second year that I take part. I entered for the first-time last year, and I will return every year. I enjoyed the flat sections and the downhills the most. It was fast on these sections. I ended up running 3:10, 3:05 even under 3 minutes a kilometre. It was nice, I was enjoying it. For me winning is just a bonus. I wasn’t expecting it, but I am happy. Last year I finished third, so it means that I am improving. I brought three friends with me today, so next year maybe I’ll bring ten.”

Zithulele Nozinkowe came in second, while Gerald Bambilo finished third.

According to Griffioen the start of the race was fast. “The race was nice; I enjoyed it and just ran within myself. As it got warmer, and we got into more climbs there was a breeze which was helpful. I enjoyed running past the dam. I used to do the XTERRA races here, so I know the course quite well. It was great to be back. I must say the climbs were tough. I enjoy climbing, but my legs were feeling it today. The run down to the finish was fast. The Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run is an old classic for me in this area. I love the Magaliesberg. It’s not too far from home and it’s always worth coming out to see it again. It’s great to win. It’s nice to prove to myself that I still have a bit of speed in my legs.”

Franza Landman came in second, while Debbie Hoek finished third.

Reatlegile Moswen (Krugersdorp) and Rone Reynecke (Rustenburg) took no prisoners in the Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run Short Route (+-12km) with finishing times of 50 minutes 04 seconds and 57 minutes 33 seconds respectively.

“The race was good, but there was a lot of hills,” says Moswen. “The hills were the most challenging part of the race. I didn’t see much of the views. I enjoyed the water crossings the most. It means a lot to be crowned as the winner today.”

Adriaan Myburgh came in second, while BasiMahe Gavhi finished third.

According to Reynecke, she always enjoys the Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run. “The route was very scenic. I think this is my fourth race and I will come back every year. I will stick to the 12km because I like to run short and fast, but one day I might take on the 24km race. It’s always a privilege to win, I can just thank God for my health and talent.”

Kamogelo Thale came in second, while Letitia Coleman finished third.

Itumeleng Khumalo and Danelle Du Plooy dominated the Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run Fun Run (+-8km) crossing the finish line first in 45 minutes 58 seconds and 01 hour 03 minutes 42 seconds respectively.

Riaan Ludick came in second in the Men’s Race with Thaami James Tisane finishing third, while Rie-Nize Crous came in second in the Women’s Race, with Petro Venter finishing third.

Said Jeremy Yatt, Fedhealth Principal Officer: “We loved seeing our members and non-members bring their families out for a day of fitness in a gorgeous setting, especially since Fedhealth is committed to encouraging all our members to lead active, healthy lifestyles. A big thank you to everyone that participated and supported the Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run – we hope you had the best time.”
