The City Of Oaks was buzzing with excitement on Saturday, 06 April 2019 with thousands of adventure seekers eager and ready to experience obstacle course racing at its best at the IMPI Challenge #1 at Coetzenburg (Stellenbosch).

A trail run with a twist, the IMPI Challenge #1 featured a spectacular (and sometimes challenging) trail run route that boasted exciting obstacles (both natural and manmade) including the likes of:  the Rawson Wall, Vietnam Crawl, Post Box, Wiggle Wiggle, Tyre Wall, Cargo Crossing and the Lily Pads to mention just a few.

Danie Rossouw (Brackenfell) and Ashleigh Singers (Durbanville) were the entrants to beat in the “Competitive” IMPI Challenge.

Rossouw completed the 10km – 12km trail run course that featured +- 18 fun (but challenging) obstacles in a time of 01 hour 02 minutes 02 seconds.  “I did the IMPI because it is a fun event,” said Rossouw.  “I love the obstacle.  It’s fast and the vibe is good.  I’m thankful to my coach, Dominique D’Oliveira and Nelius Swart.  I’ll be back next year.”

Singers claimed gold in the women’s race in a time of 01 hour 32 minutes 52 seconds.  “The IMPI Challenge is the most awesome event ever.  The vibe is absolutely stunning and this route is awesome.  It’s tough, but you can still finish with makeup on,” laughs Singers.

Niel Reitmann (Durbanville) and Cornelia Burger (Durbanville) took the lead in the “Competitive” IMPI Dash that featured a 5km trail run route with +- 12 obstacles.

“This is the 3rd time that I take part in the IMPI Dash,” said Reitmann.  “It’s such an amazing event, definitely my favourite obstacle course race.  I love the competitiveness and there are so many people that I’ve never seen before competing.  The obstacles aren’t too challenging, but it does take time.  You need the correct technique to complete the obstacles.  Coming first feels amazing.  I didn’t expect it.  I’m going to invite all my friends to take part next time.”  Reitmann crossed the finish line in 28 minutes 31 seconds.

Burger made her IMPI Dash debut on the day.  “I’m a fitness coach.  I train a lot and I enjoy being fit.  It’s nice to challenge yourself and see what you are capable of doing.  The IMPI Dash gave me the opportunity to test my fitness levels and see what I can do.  The obstacles were tough, while the trails were beautiful.  Finishing first is like a dream.  I trained hard.  I’m very thankful and will definitely be back in action at the IMPI Challenge in November.” Burger clocked a well-deserved finishing time of 37 minutes 32 seconds.

“The IMPI Challenge #1 at Coetzenburg was the perfect start to the 2019 IMPI Challenge season,” said Pieter du Plessis, IMPI Challenge Race Director.  “IMPI Warriors got to test their fitness levels, while overcoming their fears in a fun, safe environment.  The day was filled with action, laughter and camaraderie.  Junior IMPI Warriors also got to take part in the action by signing up for the IMPI Mini (ages 6 – 10 years) or the IMPI Dash (ages 10+).  We are thankful to each and every entrant that supported us today.”
