In support of the Plastic Free July® global movement, the Run Your City (RYC) Series is challenging runners to complete a Plastic Free 5K on Saturday, 03 July 2021.
“We encourage the RYC Community to ‘say no’ to single-use plastic by stepping up and committing to making a few small, easily attainable changes,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and founder of the RYC Series. “Celebrate your pledge and shared love for the environment with thousands of runners by taking part in the Plastic Free 5K. Runners choose their own safe location and route, and have from 05:00 – 21:00 on Saturday, 03 July 2021 to complete their run. The run needs to be recorded using a smartphone (Android or iPhone device) or smart watch (Garmin, TomTom, SUUNTO, Fitbit, Polar etc).”
“An awesome pair of PUMA NITRO running shoes to the value of R4000 is up for grabs,” continues Meyer. “To stand a chance to win, runners must share their activities, routes and photos to the RYC Series Running Club on Strava by no later than 23:00 on Saturday, 03 July. Help keep your city clean.”

1. Runners must “join” the RYC Series Running Club on Strava via the following link

2. If you have not yet done so, you will need to create a Strava Account before you can join the RYC Series Running
Club.
3. Runners can join the Plastic Free 5K on the RYC Series Running Club homepage on Strava by clicking on the orange “I’m in” button displayed next to the Event listing.

RYC SERIES SUPPORTS THE FIGHT AGAINST SINGLE-USE PLASTIC:
In 2019 RYC launched a Single-Use Plastic (SUP) Management Campaign that is aimed at drastically reducing the usage of single-use plastics by 85% at all three RYC events: the Joburg 10K CITYRUN, Durban 10K CITYRUN and Cape Town 12K CITYRUN. The ultimate goal is to host a mass participation road running series that is plastic free and highlights the splendor of its host city while celebrating its people, their talent and the amazing sport.
