Marking its second anniversary on Sunday 7 April 2024, the Absa RUN YOUR CITY GQEBERHA 10K will boast an exhilarating “Schools Challenge” that is guaranteed to spark exciting competition amongst the region’s top athletics schools.
“The Schools Challenge will add an exciting team element to what is usually an individual sport,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Founder of the Series. “Our goal is to inspire more junior athletes to participate in the 10km, while promoting team camaraderie and igniting friendly rivalries among schools.”
Welcoming athletes that are 14 to 19 years of age, the Schools Challenge will feature a Boys and Girls division. Schools are encouraged to enter as many teams as possible, each team must be made up of 5 learners. Prizes await the Top 5 Boys Teams and Top 5 Girls Teams, with the winning Boys and Girls teams each securing the coveted Trophy and bragging rights for a year.
“The Schools Challenge offers a special discounted entry fee of R200 per runner, which includes a temporary license,” continues Meyer. “Schools Challenge entrants will be allocated a dedicated “Entries Collection” point at race pack collection. We trust that this will add a personal touch to each entrant’s experience.”
In closing Meyer adds: “We would like to encourage the schools to incorporate the event t-shirt as part of their dress code on race day. That way they’ll still be part of the ‘sea of red’ on event day. Sign up today and prepare to #RunYourCity.”
