The race will be no different as we continue to bring our strategic intent to life to inspire the country to get active, reach their performance goals and connect with old and new friends on the road. We look forward to seeing partcipants at the finish line,” said Absa Managing Executive: Relationship Banking Western Cape and Eastern Cape,  John Tshabalala.

“The PUMA ‘Beat Bolt’ sprint is back and we can’t wait to get the heart rates pumping in Cape Town,” says Brett Bellinger, Marketing Director of PUMA South Africa.  “This activation requires speed,  you need to #BeatBolt afterall, so be prepared to clock some #FastTimes and prove that you have what it takes to go #ForeverFaster.  As motivation we have some exciting prizes up for grabs.  The male and female runner with the fastest time will each take home a R10 000 PUMA Retail Shopping Experience.  There are also additional prizes for runners who complete the sprint in under 15, 20 and 25 seconds.  We are excited to return to events and look forward to taking in the vibe at the Absa CAPE TOWN 12K CITYRUN.”

According to Megan Collinicos, VP Marketing – DHL Express Sub-Saharan Africa, after the success of the Absa DURBAN 10K CITYRUN (that was hosted in October) the DHL team cannot wait to support runners at the Cape Town race.  “Our team absolutely love cheering for runners especially as they pass through the ‘DHL Mile To Go’.  This section is a lively celebration of yellow.  The goal is to lift spirits while bringing the ‘gees’ as we help runners reach their goal by ‘delivering’ them to the finish line on a cloud of excitement.”

Runners will be treated to live performances by a number of Cape Town’s leading performing arts groups including:  Marimba Cape Whalers outreach group, AfroBeat Drumming, Macassar Color Guard and Youth Drumming Ensemble Troupe and The Field Band Foundation Brass Band.

Formed in 2019 in the community of Macassar and Firgrove, the Marimba Cape Whalers outreach group is made up of local children and young adults who are between the ages of 10 – 30 and were raised in these two communities.  This group consists of marimba and percussion players.

“After a year of not permorming due to the pandemic, this booking really means a lot to us,” says Paul Mongwe, Marimba Cape Whalers outreach group.  “The booking has motivated us to continue rehearsing.  Performing at the Absa CAPE TOWN 12K CITYRUN will grant us an opportunity to showcase our talent.  It’s a great way for us to get exposure and we hope that it will lead to us getting many more bookings.  We haven’t had any bookings this year so this one means a lot to us.  This will be the very first time that we perform at the event and we are really looking forward to it.  Runners can expect a mind-blowing performance full of energy and vibey dance song.  Be prepared to be entertained.”

Started in 2009 AfroBeat Drumming is made up of professional djembe drummers as well as drummers from all walks of life.  Group members range from 21 to 55 years of age.  As a business, AfroBeat Drumming runs drum circles for team building and functions and also gives drumming performances for events like the Absa CAPE TOWN 12K CITYRUN.

“We are always happy to be booked to perform especially during this time when business has been very quiet due to the pandemic,” says David Keuning, Owner AfroBeat Drumming.  “This won’t be the first time that we perform at this event.  It’s a great experience and lots of fun providing entertainment for the runners as they go by.  From their reaction the runners also seem to really enjoy it.   I always invite another group of djembe drummers to perform at the event (to swell the numbers) so it’s great to meet other djembe drumming enthusiasts.  We are really looking forward to drumming with each other and getting to be a part of the event again.”

Formed in 2015 the Macassar Color Guard and Youth Drumming Ensemble Troupe uses choreography and equipment for added visual appeal during a marching band show.  The purpose of the color guard is to interpret the music that the drum is playing via the synchronized work of flags, through dance.  The group consists of youth members that are aged between 10 to 25 years.

“Our focus is to bring music to life through performance in a competitive format.  Performers demonstrate skill, agility, strength and endurance through choreographed movement, dance, drums and use of props set to music to tell a story,” says Peter Aaron, Macassar Colour Guard and Youth Drumming Ensemble Troupe.  “We will get great exposure at the Absa CAPE TOWN 12K CITYRUN.  This will be the first time that we perform at the event.  The group can’t wait t showcase their talent.  Runners can look forward to amazing entertainment with high energy levels.”

Establisehd in 1997, the Field Band Foundation is a youth development project that is committed to teaching life skills through music and dance to better lives of youth in our communities.

“The Absa CAPE TOWN 12K CITYRUN serves as a great platform for exposure,” says Ushama Ross Jerrier, National Operations Manager, The Field Band Foundation Brass Band.  “We have performed at this event before and the experience was overwhelming.  Our band members really had a good time, the audience and runners were amazing, they responded well to our performance, some even stopped to take photos while others were dancing to our music.  We are looking forward to making this performance one of our memorable 2021 performances for our members.  Runners and spectators can look forwared to seeing children performing high quality music while dancing.  This is an exceptional touch that only We can do.”
