Common consensus among Tottenham Hotspur fans is that Mauricio Pochettino will have his work cut out to get Spurs into the Champions League places next season.

The concept that the former Southampton manager has inherited dysfunction and chaos is widely held, and in part down to the fact that the supporters have been left hugely pessimistic by what they have seen on the pitch over the last 12 months.

However, while his ‘to do list’ has many issues to be addressed, I believe they can be simplified into five key areas.

Get these right and next season could be a lot better at White Hart Lane.

Resolve the left-back issue

Danny Rose is prone to mistakes (that is an under-statement) and in the modern game it is vital that Tottenham get more out of their full-back.

I know we’ve written players off too early in the past, and some might argue that coaching and developing might still see the young lad produce some form.

But we need someone that is accomplished now. Going forward and supporting the left-sided player is important but leaving holes at the back is infuriating…
