The Spanish La Liga had initially announced in mid-August that they had struck a groundbreaking deal with multinational media, sports, and entertainment company Relevant.
According to them, the deal would boost the competition in North America and also see a Spanish top-flight game being played in the United States for the first time.
It can be recalled that the move was met with staunch opposition particularly from the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE). The body had accused the league of disregarding the opinion of players and engaging them in actions that would only benefit them.
The president of the AFE, David Aganzo who was a former Spain U21 international as well as youth product of Real Madrid accused the La Liga of trying to use footballers in the league as a currency.

However, Girona have disclosed on their official website that not only have they been approached, they’ve also gone a step further by accepting to host Barcelona away from their own stadium.
The club stated that they had accepted the proposal as it would provide an avenue for their growth. They pointed out that they fought against going into extinction some few years back and now have the goal of consolidating their stay in the La Liga.
They added that the action was necessary as it was another step that would enhance their competition with the elite after the efforts they made over the years that saw their promotion to the La Liga.
