A substantial group of Tygerberg MTB Club members is eagerly awaiting SA’s MTB Party of the year, the Savanna Origin of Trails MTB Experience, that is set to showcase the sport of mountain biking against the backdrop of Stellenbosch’s legendary trails on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 November 2023.
“The Savanna Origin of Trails MTB Experience offers a distinctive ambiance characterized by its relaxed, social atmosphere,” remarks Morne Veer, Executive Committee Member of the Tygerberg MTB Club. “Paired with the breathtaking trails, picturesque farmlands, and stunning scenery, it creates an unforgettable experience. In Cape Town, we are fortunate to have an abundance of cycling events, with many weekends hosting two or even three. While there’s nothing wrong with embracing competition and pushing one’s limits, there are events that invite you to simply enjoy the pure pleasure of riding without fretting over stopwatches, heart rate zones, or podium finishes. The Savanna Origin of Trails undoubtedly stands at the pinnacle of such experiences.”
“The Tygerberg MTB Club recently had the opportunity to host a Savanna Origin of Trails MTB Experience Training Ride at the Bloemendal Trail Park in Durbanville,” continues Veer. “This was a special day for us. It showed that we all share the same passion for the simplicity of just enjoying the outdoors and the freedom that MTB’ing brings. Our members have always loved taking part in Stillwater Sports’ events with the Savanna Origin of Trails being an annual highlight for many. Seeing the sponsors and event organisers on our turf, so to speak, was special and many new friendships were formed.”
“For many riders, embarking on a journey to an unfamiliar location or trail network can be quite daunting. The uncertainty of unfamiliar routes can be time-consuming and confusing,” Veer explains. “The Savanna Origin of Trails MTB Experience, on the other hand, offers mountain bikers the luxury of two days filled with delightful trails that are well marked and in a relaxed and welcoming format. We can’t wait to return to South Africa’s MTB Party of the year in November, where we look forward to soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. We also look forward to closing off each stage with a refreshing, ice-cold Savanna.”

Affectionately dubbed ‘SA’s MTB Party of the Year’, the Savanna Origin of Trails is an individual 2-Day MTB Stage Race that highlights the beauty and splendor of Stellenbosch. Mountain bikers will be treated to a vast network of world-class and exclusive trails while celebrating the origin of SA mountain biking.
