The Stellenbosch based Fairtree Cannondale Racing Team will be seen in action at the 6th annual Fedhealth MTB Challenge that will take place at the scenic Blaauwklippen Wine Estate (Stellenbosch) on Sunday 12 September 2021.

“The Fairtree Cannondale Racing Team started in 2008 and we currently have 13 riders (12 male and one female) between the ages of 22 – 30,” says Chris Norton, Team Manager.  “We have a mountain biking coach (Corrie Muller), a doctor (Pierre de Viviers), a Bike Technician (Luan Smit) and a gym instructor (Gemma Haywood).  We train most days and gym on Wednesdays. Dr Pierre looks after the medical needs of the riders at Stellenbosch University Health.  Corrie puts out a weekly program that the guys follow, Luan does our bike set up and Gemma is in charge of strength training and conditioning.”

“Our riders absolutely love the Fedhealth MTB Challenge,” continues Norton.  “The event literally takes place in our backyard (referring to Stellenbosch), and every year the experience is different.  We are thankful for the support that we receive from the organisers of the Fedhealth MTB Challenge.  By taking part in the event the riders can work on their racing skill.  We have had very little opportunity to compete this year, so we are really looking forward to building on our fitness and experience at the Fedhealth MTB Challenge as part of our preparation for larger stage races.”

Kayamandi based Fairtree Cannondale Racing Team riders Luyanda Thobigunya (24) and Sive Boyce (24) are counting down the days to the Fedhealth MTB Challenge.

According to Luyanda Thobigunya, he’s attracted to the sport of mountain biking because he enjoys the outdoors.  “I love escaping daily life and doing what I love most.  I can’t wait to experience the rush of racing again, while testing myself against competition.  My goal is to win.”

“I love being on my bike in the mountains,” says Sive Boyce.  “I am only just starting to race.  By taking part in the Fedhealth MTB Challenge I will be gaining experience.  My goal will be to finish strong.”
