Former Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic winner and Cycle2Ride (C2R) Founder, Phillimon Sebona (Centurion) will return to the ATKV Buffelspoort on Saturday 04 June 2022, this time with the goal of introducing more female riders to the sport of mountain biking and the excitement of conquering the monster.
C2R is an initiative joined by Curro that aims to promote cycling as a medium for family cohesion, relaxation, fun, and possible career choice for those truly interested in becoming professional athletes.
“There is a big gap in the female category with not many women participating in mountain biking events,” says Sebona. “This piqued my interest and I have made it my goal to help introduce more women to the sport. Currently we have four talented ladies at our academy. We offer them coaching and training plans, organise races and manage their year plan. We are excited to have the Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic as one of the events on their calendar. It’s not an easy event so the ladies will put all their training to the test.”
“Twelve C2R representatives will be racing on Saturday,” confirms Sebona. “I am excited to also be taking on the Monster. I won in 2017 and would love to see myself on the top step again. This year, however, two female riders from C2R will join me on the start line, while one female rider will take on the Half Marathon along with a few of our Development Riders. We can’t wait to #ConquerTheMonster.”
C2R Representatives Beauty Buhle Ngobese (Midrand) and Pontso Mohoaladi (Alberton) can’t wait to line up at the 2022 Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic on Saturday 04 June 2022.
“This will be my first Marathon race,” admits Ngobese. “I signed up for this event because I want to #ConquerTheMonster. I would like to inspire more ladies to challenge themselves and take on mountain biking.”
“I’m attracted by the adrenaline rush and absolutely love conquering the toughest terrain,” says Mohoaladi. “Phillimon has taught me to believe in myself and what my bike is able to do. I’m both nervous and excited to take on the Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic. My goal will be to #ConquerTheMonster while enjoying the trails.”
