Over the years, many IPL team have made huge investments in specific players with the aim of making their team even mightier. Out of the bunch of expensive players, franchises have showered money on, some proved their owner’s decision right but some had failed miserably.

#4 KL Rahul
KXIP bought KL Rahul at a hefty price of 11 Crores INR in the 2018 IPL auction. The batsman repaid the faith shown in him by the owners and announced his arrival in KXIP’s team by registering the quickest 50 in the history of the IPL. He aggregated 659 runs for the Mohali-based franchise in IPL 2018, which included six 50+ scores and hence proved his value to his team.
#3 Ravindra Jadeja
During the IPL 2012 auction, the Chennai Super Kings bought the most expensive cricketer of that edition, the Indian all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja for 9.72 Crores INR. CSK nurtured the inexperienced Jadeja and built him as their prime all-rounder and left-arm spinner. His consistent performances made him the cornerstone of CSK’s spin bowling department.
#2 Gautam Gambhir
In the IPL 2011 auction, the Shahrukh Khan owned Kolkata Knight Riders recruited Gautam Gambhir at a mind-boggling amount of 11.04 Crores INR, making him the costliest player of that season. KKR named Gambhir as their new captain and the Delhi boy changed their fortunes completely by leading them to 2 IPL title victories in 2012 and 2014 respectively. Hence, he did a lot more than what the franchise expected from him.
#1 MS Dhoni
Back in 2008 when IPL was inaugurated, CSK picked MS Dhoni at a price of 6 Cr. INR, which was the most expensive pick in that season. In return, Dhoni has led the Chennai Super Kings to three IPL titles, apart from getting into seven finals, and making it to the play-offs every time. The CSK squad has changed a lot over the years, but the two things that have remained constant are the good results and Thala, MS Dhoni.
