An impressive list of leading Western Cape based athletics schools have jumped at the opportunity to sign up for the Twizza Super School Series Regional Qualifier #2 that will take place at the Greenpoint Athletics Stadium (Cape Town) on Saturday 23 October 2021.

Launched in 2019, the Twizza Super School Series has very quickly become a highlight on the schools’ athletics calendar and has one clear goal in mind – to crown SA’s best athletics school!  There can be only ONE WINNER!

The winning school will take home bragging rights for one year!

Top schools that will be seen in action will include, but are not limited to, Durbanville High School, Charlie Hofmeyr High School (Ceres), Wynberg Boys’ High School, La Rochelle Girls High School (Paarl), Jan van Riebeeck High School (Gardens, Cape Town), Paarl Gimnasium, Paarl Boys High School and Paarl Girls High School.

“The Twizza Super School Series is a fantastic initiative that allows healthy competition between athletes,” says Lindi Mirfin, Head of Athletics and Cross Country at Durbanville High School.  “Our School took part in the inaugural Twizza Super School Series in 2019/2020 and our athletes loved the competition. It is a great way for us to give our athletes a chance to compete against schools that we don’t normally compete against and to prepare us for the season ahead.  We strive to give our athletes the best coaching and opportunities that we can. Taking part at this level and being able to see what our athletes are capable of, means that they get to reap the rewards of their own effort and hard work. Collectively the team will be able to work together and achieve great heights.”

According to Elsmarie Coetzee, Acting Sport Organiser at Charlie Hofmeyr High School, the Twizza Super School Series is a great opportunity for individual athletes to learn to compete as a unit.  “It is all about the team,” says Coetzee.  “The learners motivate each other and work together to achieve a greater goal where everyone benefits.  Our children need to stay motivated and focussed during these challenging times.  They have lost a lot of sporting opportunities and we need to provide them with safe platforms where they can grow into young individuals with values.  As a school we decided to grab all the opportunities that come our way, that is why we entered the Twizza Super School Series.  Our immediate goal will be to put a smile on our athletes’ faces, but we are always up for a challenge and are definitely planning to go to the final.”

“The Twizza Super School Series is so much fun,” says Stefan Potgieter, 2IC of athletics at Wynberg Boys’ High School.  “It offers our athletes an opportunity to compete at a high level of competition in an event that is well organized and extremely professional.  The fact that the Twizza Super School Series is run so well is an added benefit for us.  This level of competition is imperative. We believe that the learners will only be able to truly measure their abilities in their event(s) if they compete against the best. The Twizza Super School Series offers this high level of competition, and we are grateful for that opportunity.  We managed to finish in the Top 10 teams the last time we competed, placing 9th. This year we aim to better that as a team.”

According to Marianna Schoeman, Athletics Co-ordinator at La Rochelle Girls High School, the Twizza Super School Series exposes their athletes to healthy and good competition.  “As the defending champions in the Girls Team Category of the 2019 Regional Qualifier (in the Western Cape), we can’t wait to defend our title,” says Schoeman.  “This level of competition is extremely important as it gives our learners the opportunity to be competitive while competing against SA’s top athletics schools.  Our goal is to successfully defend our title.”

“The Twizza Super School Series is a wonderful event,” says Jan Henning, Sports Coordinator at Jan van Riebeeck High School.  “It’s great that our learners have something to look forward to.  There was a long period in which we weren’t allowed to do anything, so at this stage participation is more important to us than competition.  We just want to be there and be part of the experience.  The goal is to give our learners a chance to participate. Hopefully, we can be competitive and secure a few medals, that would be a bonus.”
