The Greenpoint Athletics Stadium (Cape Town) was buzzing with track & field action on Saturday 23 October 2021 with leading athletics schools facing-off at the much-anticipated Twizza Super School Series Regional Qualifier #2.

Launched in 2019, the Twizza Super School Series has very quickly become a highlight on the schools’ athletics calendar and has one clear goal in mind – to crown SA’s best athletics school!  There can be only ONE WINNER!

The winning school will take home bragging rights for one year!

Paarl Boys High School claimed gold in the Boys Teams Competition, with Fairmont High School coming in second and Oakdale High School finishing third.

“It feels good to know that we are the best in the whole Western Cape,” says Elton Lombaard from Paarl Boys High School.  “We are actually very surprised as it was only at the last moment that we pulled through and won.  I was nervous coming into the event, not knowing what to expect.  The Twizza Super School Series is a lot of fun. I like the vibe and it’s well organised.  It means a lot to represent our school at the National Final in 2022.  To be part of Paarl Boys is a dream that I always had when I was small and there is nothing more that I can ask for.”  Lombaard secured gold in the Boys U17 Discus throw.

In the Girls Team Competition, La Rochelle Girl’s High School (Paarl) secured the top spot on the podium, Paarl Girl’s High School was second followed by Bloemhof Girl’s High School (Stellenbosch) in third place.

According to Brenda du Toit from La Rochelle Girl’s High School, she cannot describe how it feels to be the best Girl’s School at the Twizza Super School Series Regional Qualifier #2.  “We are thrilled to have won.  We were so excited to take part today and be part of the event.  Coming into the event our goal was to do our best and just enjoy it as a team.  We aimed for 16 600 points and are happy that we could reach our mark.  We had fun today.  Representing our school at the National Final in 2022 means a lot to us.  We would like to do our best and enjoy every moment.” Du Toit placed 2nd in the Girls U19 400m Hurdles and 1st in the Girls U19 400m.

The Mixed Team (combined competition) title went to a deserving Fairmont High School (Durbanville).  Durbanville High School claimed second place, with Belville High School securing the final spot on the podium.

“With there not being many events to take part in last year, it’s great to come back with such a bang overall,” says Keenan Loesch from Fairmont High School.  “To be so consistent over boys and girls is really great for us as a school.  We didn’t know what to expect coming into the competition.  Throughout the day we started believing in ourselves more and more as we saw the score updates.  The Twizza Super School Series Regional Qualifier #2 was great.  It was great to have so many schools competing and the venue, Greenpoint, is an amazing stadium.  You really want to do well when you come here.  Representing our school at the Twizza Super School Series National Final will be quite a challenge for us.  A lot of strong schools will be there, which means there’ll be a lot of competition which is great.”  Loesch secured gold in both the Boys U19 3000m and 1500m.

“We expected a track & field battle of note at the Regional Qualifier #2, and the schools definitely did not disappoint,” says Lance Coertzen, Twizza Group Marketing Manager.  “With competition being rife from start to finish, we were treated to track & field performances of the highest standard.  We were overwhelmed not only by the camaraderie that we witnessed between team members, but also by the great sportsmanship that was visible between schools.”

“Many special moments were made today, and we are extremely proud to have been part of it,” continues Coertzen.  “We are now more excited than ever to welcome the qualifying schools to the Twizza Super School Series National Final in Gauteng on Saturday 19 February 2022.  Get ready to #TasteTheMoment with Twizza as we prepare to crown SA’s best athletics school.”

From here the Regional Qualifier #1 and Regional Qualifier #2 results will be tallied, with the overall Top 40 Boys Teams and Top 40 Girls Teams advancing to the Twizza Super School Series National Final that will take place in the Gauteng Province on Saturday 19 February 2022.  These schools will be announced soon.
