The search for SA’s best athletics school kicks off at Twizza Super School Series Regional Qualifier #1

The Twizza Super School Series Regional Qualifier #1 inspired nail-biting Track & Field action at the Ruimsig Athletics Stadium (Roodepoort) on Wednesday 29 September 2021 with a strong contingent SA schools toeing the line ready to contend for the coveted title of SA’s best athletics school!

Launched in 2019, the Twizza Super School Series has very quickly become a highlight on the schools’ athletics calendar and has one clear goal in mind – to crown SA’s best athletics school!  There can be only ONE WINNER!  The winning school will take home bragging rights for one year!

There was no shortage of competition at the Ruimsig Athletics Stadium with teams going the extra mile to secure points for their schools.

Precious Molepo from Prestige College ran a new PB in the Girls U17 200m in a time of 24.14 seconds.  “I am very grateful and happy,” says Molepo, who also secured the top spot on the podium in the Girls U17 400m in an impressive time of 54.16 seconds.

Naledi Makgatha from Vorentoe High School took gold in the Girls U17 3000m race in a time of 09:54.37.  “I felt very good.  It wasn’t hard.  The 3000m is my favourite race.”

Rolandt Grosskopf from Menlopark High School secured a double victory in the Boys U15 100m and 200m races.  “It was a good run. I didn’t have the best of starts, but I got up to speed nicely. I am going to keep working up until Nationals and then run the best times there.  That’s ultimately my goal.”  Grosskopf completed the 100m in 10.82 seconds and the 200m in 21.79 seconds.

The action was unfortunately cut short late afternoon due to severe weather conditions.  Showing true sportsmanship all participating schools agreed that instead of winners being announced, unofficial results would apply based on the ranking list.  The Top Three schools in each category according to the raking list were:

Male Team Category:  Menlopark High School, Prestige College and Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool Pretoria (Affies).

Female Team Category:  Menlopark High School, Prestige College and Helpmekaar College.

Mixed Team Category:  Menlopark High School, Prestige College and Helpmekaar College.

“We could not have asked for a better start to the 2021/2022 Twizza Super School Series,” says Lance Coertzen, Twizza Group Marketing Manager.  “One thing was clear the athletes were hungry for competition, and this is evident in the fantastic results that were achieved.  A big congratulations to each and every athlete that participated.  We were blown away by the excitement and the vibe, while the camaraderie amongst team members was truly heart-warming.”

Coertzen adds: “We are extremely proud to be part of the special moments that were made today and cannot wait for the action of the Regional Qualifier #2 that will take place at the Greenpoint Athletics Stadium (Cape Town) on Saturday 23 October 2021.  Get ready to #TasteTheMoment with Twizza.”
