The 2022 Twizza Super School Series National Final saw an impressive total of 77 teams from 59 schools go the distance at Ruimsig Athletics Stadium (Roodepoort) on Saturday, 19 February 2022. Menlopark High School proved to be a force to be reckoned with, claiming gold in all three categories of the competition – Boys’, Girls’ and Combined Winners.

“We had an amazing day at the Twizza Super School Series National Final,” says Aiden Smith, Boys’ Team Captain Menlopark High School. “It meant a lot to me to be able to represent my school today. I really didn’t expect the competition to be as tough as it was. I thought we would place 2nd or 3rd, so it feels amazing being crowned the best Boys’ Team. I’m glad to take the trophy home. The Meeting was absolutely fantastic, and I think that next year we will be back with a bang.” Smith placed 2nd in the Boys U19 Shot Put and 5th in the Discus. Prestige College came 2nd in the Boy’s Team Category, while Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies) placed 3rd.

According to Lesedi Khunou, Menlopark High School Girls’ Team Captain, the Twizza Super School Series is a great platform for students and athletes to reach a higher level. “Representing my school here today was both overwhelming and stressful,” admits Khunou. “Our team tried to enjoy the Meeting more than just putting the pressure on ourselves to win. The Twizza Super School Series National Final was amazing. Being crowned the best Girls’ Team is an amazing feeling, but this is actually where the hard work starts. Going into inter-high next week, we know that we are the best school, and we have to show that we are the best school.” Khunou claimed gold in the Girls’ U19 Discus and placed 2nd in the Shot Put. Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool came 2nd in the Girls’ Team Category, while Prestige College placed 3rd.

Menlopark High School also claimed gold in the Combined Winners Competition, with Prestige College coming in 2nd and Helpmekaar Kollege placing 3rd.

“SA’s up and coming track and field stars definitely brought the heat today, and we had front row seats,” says Lance Coertzen, Twizza Group Marketing Manager. “The competition was nail biting from start to finish with team members giving their all for their schools and teammates. A big congratulations to all the athletes that participated, you are all winners. Well done to Menlopark High School for your dominant victory across all three categories of the event (Boys, Girls and Combined Winners Competition) and claiming the coveted Title of SA’s Best Athletics School. Your hard work has paid off.”

“Not only does the Twizza Super School Series bring together members of a school, but it also brings together athletes from various schools,” continues Coertzen. “Irrespective of their backgrounds, these athletes have at least one thing in common, their love for the sport. The National Final showcased track and field competition of the highest standard and we are thankful two each and every athlete for all the special moments that were made today. It was a privilege to #TasteTheMoment with you.”
