The FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN will boast a fourth charity in 2019 with event organisers welcoming Cotlands into the fold.

“We are proud to welcome Cotlands as a charity of the 2019 FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director Stillwater Sports.  “The organisation focusses on Early Childhood Development (ECD) and offers innovative programmes that promote play-based learning amongst children from 0 – 5 years of age (before they enter formal schooling).  We are continuously impressed by the selfless nature depicted by SA’s running community.  In 2018 the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN’s existing three charities (the Joburg Heritage Foundation, Reach for a Dream Foundation and Johannesburg SPCA) received overwhelming support from runners with a whopping combined total of R64 512 being raised for charity.  We trust that runners will share our enthusiasm and show their support of Cotlands in 2019.”

The FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN’s sister event, the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN also welcomed Cotlands as a charity in 2019.

“As a charity of the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN we got to experience the positive attitude of the event crew while feeling the excitement of the race,” says Gary Janeke, Cotlands Regional Manager Western Cape.  “Thanks to the generosity of the runners we were able to make a greater impact in South Africa through our purpose.  We are excited to extend our involvement with the FNB Run Your City Series by also being welcomed as a charity of the second event, the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN.  We love the idea of an event that highlights the splendour of its host city.  Runners get to experience their city on foot, the event brings awareness of the environment and cities are united.  We are proud to be part of the journey.  Let’s share our resources and opportunities to be significant in South Africa.  No Matter how small, we all can make a difference.”

ABOUT COTLANDS:  Founded in 1936 Cotlands has undergone many changes, but always retained serving young children as its primary goal.  From historical roots as a baby sanctuary, Cotlands initiated its community based programmes in 1999, primarily focusing on HIV and nutrition, and later adding psychosocial and educational support to the programmes.  In 2012, Cotlands conceptualised a non-centre based early childhood development (ECD) programme.   Today, Cotlands offers early learning play-based opportunities to thousands of children in six of South Africa’s provinces through toy libraries and playgroups.
