Aptly dubbed the battle of “North vs South”, the much-anticipated 2022 Twizza Super School Series National Final will take place at the Ruimsig Athletics Stadium (Roodepoort) on Saturday 19 February and will boast exceptionally strong competition in the Boys’ Team Category with Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies), Menlopark High School, Prestige College, Paarl Boys High School and Oakdale Agricultural High School all chomping at the bit ready to prove that they are SA’s best athletics school!

Launched in 2019, the Twizza Super School Series has very quickly become a highlight on the schools’ athletics calendar and has one clear goal in mind – to crown SA’s best athletics school! There can be only ONE WINNER! The winning school will take home bragging rights for one year!

“I enjoy running at this event as it promotes the sport that we all love,” says Marx Nel (18) from Affies. “I am looking forward to competing against the best in the country in the 100m and 400m. My goal is to give my all as I represent my school. As a team our goal is to do our best in every event, while motivating each other. Winning overall would be a bonus.”

Menlopark High School’s Aiden Smith (17) will be a force to be reckoned with in the shot put and discus. “I use the Twizza Super School Series to rank myself amongst the other athletes in South Africa,” says Smith. “I like the energy experienced at this meeting, it’s like a National Championship. My goal is to make at least 20m in the shot put, but I will be chasing the 21m mark.”

Evince Dlamini (17) from Prestige College will be seen in action in the 400m hurdles as well as the 110m hurdles. “Taking part in the Twizza Super School Series is an experience of a lifetime,” says Dlamini. “It’s a competition that really challenges you. Kids from all over South Africa come together to compete. It’s here that you realise just how much talent there is in the country. My goal is to achieve excellent results in my events while helping our team reach their goals. My grade 12 athletics friends are my heroes. They play hard, focus hard and also try to better themselves. They are superheroes and amazing athletes. I am proud to call them my friends”.

According to Jacques Rossouw (18) from Paarl Boys High School, he loves that the Twizza Super School Series gives athletes the opportunity to compete against schools from around the country. “We don’t get this opportunity a lot,” says Rossouw. “This gives us the opportunity to compare ourselves to the best athletes in South Africa. I am looking forward to seeing top performances on a great track. My goal will be to score as many points for my team as I can. I would also like to improve on my personal best.” Rossouw will be seen in action in the high jump and 110m hurdles.

Ready to represent Oakdale Agricultural High School in the discus throw and shot put, Righardt Stander (17) believes that the Twizza Super School Series gives athletes the opportunity to live out their passion. “The competition is always great, but I think that the journey is also something to look forward to,” says Stander. “I will aim to do the best that I can to add to my team’s success. We are here to give it our all, and to keep Oakdale’s name high. We spend 99% of our time in the hostel so our unity and brotherhood are next level.”
