The FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN’s three charities (the Joburg Heritage Foundation, Reach for a Dream Foundation and Johannesburg SPCA) received overwhelming support from runners in 2018 with a whopping combined total of R64 512 being raised for charity.

“We are continuously impressed by the selfless nature depicted by SA’s running community,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director Stillwater Sports.  “We are thankful for the support received for our three event charities.  These charities lie close to our hearts.  The donations received will go a long way in ensuring the continuation of their selfless work.  We are proud to continue our support of the Joburg Heritage Foundation, Johannesburg SPCA and the Reach for a Dream Foundation in 2019.  We invite all runners and walkers to celebrate this vibrant city, help make a change and #RunJoburgYourWay.”

Founded in 1985 the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation is dedicated to the exploration, documentation, protection and restoration of Johannesburg’s built heritage.

“We’re thrilled to be associated with the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN,” confirms Brett McDougall, Chairman Johannesburg Heritage Foundation.  “The event takes place in the historic city centre, so runners get to see the historic buildings that make Joburg such an awesome place.  The association with the event has benefitted us in two ways:  it has given our cause broader exposure, and the funds that we have received have allowed us to extend our Heritage Education Programme to schools that cannot afford to pay.  The FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN represents everything that makes this City great – energy, drive and a passion to make our great City even better.”

The Reach For A Dream Foundation (RFAD) was established in 1988 and believes in the power of dreams.  RFAD encourages children to use their dreams to fight life-threatening illnesses.

According to Chloe Mpinga, Business Development Manager RFAD, it is an honour and privilege to be part of the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN.  “Through our partnership we are able to realize the dreams of life threatened children across the country. We have been able to inspire hope in the lives of children who need it most.  The Foundation is eternally grateful for the contribution that was made by runners in 2018.  This contribution enabled us to realize the dreams of ten children who are fighting serious illnesses.  Everyone has their reason for running.  This year we ask that you run for a life-threatened child. Let’s make dreams come true in 2019.”

The Johannesburg SPCA is a non- profit organisation that started operating in 1902 and is dependent on the kindness and support of individuals and companies.

“It is an absolute honour to be chosen as an official charity of the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN,” says Liana Marx, Head of Public Relations, Marketing and Fundraising Johannesburg SPCA.  “The event is an amazing platform that enables the SPCA to get the much needed publicity and support.  This helps us to educate the public on the role that the Johannesburg SPCA fulfils in society.  We would like to thank Stillwater Sports and FNB for allowing us to be part of this amazing fundraising event.  We are also thankful to each and every runner that supported us by making a donation.  A portion of the funds went towards our food bill.  Feeding between 200 to 250 animals on a daily basis means that we run up quite an account when it comes to food.  We were also able to purchase feed for the farm animals that we have in our farmyard.  The rest of the funds were used to sterilize animals for people who didn’t have the needed funds to do so themselves.  Our outreach officers were also able to vaccinate public animals with vaccines purchased thanks to the donation received.”

There are many areas in which the Johannesburg SPCA can be assisted, from volunteers to donations of items such as plastic beds for the animals to sleep in, toys for all the animals, blankets and food or by making a monetary donation.
