With options ranging from the beach to the berg and into the bush, our country offers a smorgasbord of gorgeous, world-class holiday destinations. But, with so many options, how does one choose where to go this December?

“Marking off holiday time on your calendar can give you something to look forward to, but proper planning is key to ensuring that you have the time of your life,” says Shaun Lamont, Managing Director of First Group Hotel and Resorts. He adds that it all starts with choosing the right destination. “Going on a beach holiday when you hate the sand isn’t wise, and neither is going on a holiday to a secluded, off-the-grid cottage in the bush if you prefer all amenities that come with staying at a 4-star resort.”

So, what do you do? Shaun says that First Group have put a fun quiz together to help guests take the guessing out of where to go this festive season. You can take the quiz here:

What do you hate doing on holiday?

Laying on the beach

Hiking

Shopping

What do you look forward to most on holiday?

Discovering nature

Getting your tan on

Outdoor activities

Are you an early riser?

Absolutely, I watch the sun rise

Nope, not on holiday

I’m easy

What type of reading material will be going in your suitcase?

Wildlife spotting guide

Favourite magazine or novel

Map with hiking trails

What is your preferred mode of transport?

4×4

Jeep

Foot

What is your preferred footwear?

Anything that’s comfy

Flip flops

Hiking tekkies

Who would be your ideal travel companion?

Bear Grylls

Rhianna

Heather Anderson

Mostly As: The Bush

If you answered mostly As, then an escape from the noise and fast pace of city life is possibly what you’re after. Along with a good dose of rest and relaxation, a bush holiday (AKA safari) is likely to be right up your alley. Get ready to enjoy the fresh air, marvel at the stars and get up close and personal with the wildlife.

Mostly Bs: The Beach

If reading a book while basking in the sun with your kids (or friends) frolicking in the surf sounds idyllic, then you possibly answered mostly Bs. So, heed the call of the waves; grab your sunscreen, hat and sunnies, and head to the beach for long, lazy days and gorgeous sunsets. While there’s so much to see and do at seaside destinations, there really is no rush in Africa – so be as active or as lazy as you like.

Mostly Cs: The Berg

Those who answered mostly Cs are likely to enjoy wide, open spaces and majestic scenery, toasty fires and glasses of gluhwein. So, if this is your idea of fun, then lace up your hiking boots and head into the mountains. Plus, if you taking the kids, many berg resorts have action-packed kids’ activity programmes, as well as child minders on hand, so parents can relax, knowing that the kids are entertained and safe.

“Where ever you choose to go, make your decision soon as hotels and resorts are almost at capacity and you don’t want to miss out on making magical, lasting memories with your friends and family this festive season,” Shaun concludes.

To find a suitable berg, bush or beach holiday destination for you and your family, visit www.firstgroup-sa.co.za.

Take First Group’s quick quiz to discover which destination you should be visiting this December!
