NZeTA New Zealand

From October 1, 2019, it is mandatory to apply for an Electronic Travel Authority for your trip to New Zealand, this is also called an NZeTA New Zealand. You can easily apply for the travel authorization online and you will receive an almost immediate notification of whether you will be granted access to New Zealand. If approved, your NZeTA is valid for 2 years. If you apply for a new passport within these 2 years, you can transfer the NZeTA to your new passport.

Tourist tax (Tourism Levy)

In addition to an Electronic Travel Authority, New Zealand has also decided to introduce a tourist tax known as Tourism Levy. This tourist levy is also mandatory from 1 October 2019 and must be applied for simultaneously with your NZeTA. Tourism Levy also has the same validity of 2 years or as long as the validity of your passport.

Why an NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority)?

With the introduction of the NZeTA, New Zealand follows the example of other countries such as the United States and Canada where this form of travel authorization application has been in force for some time. The advantage of an Electronic Travel Authority for New Zealand is that you have already been checked in advance and the border passage will be faster. However, an approved application does not guarantee entry to New Zealand. On entering you still have to go through immigration where it can still be decided that you will be denied entry to the country.

Costs NZeTA and International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy

The official cost for an Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) for New Zealand is NZ $ 12 (or NZ $ 9 if you apply through an app). In addition to the costs for the NZeTA, there are also the tourist taxes (International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy) costs, which are NZ $ 35. You can pay these costs via credit card via the official site.

Request your NZeTA and Tourism Levy for New Zealand in time

You must complete your NZeTA applications in New Zealand on time. In most cases, your Electronic Travel Authority application will be approved immediately. However, there are always exceptions, so if you submit your application on time, you still have the option of applying for a different visa at the embassy if your NZeTA application is rejected.

As indicated earlier, the starting date is October 1, 2019. So, if you are traveling after October 1, you are obliged to apply for an NZeTA even if you have booked the trip before October 1, 2019. It is possible to submit an application from 1 July 2019. This also applies to the compulsory tourism levy (International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy).
