Johannesburg – Several U.S. citizens and other travelers have been robbed at gun point while traveling in motor vehicles from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to their place of lodging.
In some instances, the robberies took place after the vehicle arrived at a hotel, guest house, or private home. In other instances, the vehicle with the passengers was boxed in and stopped by two vehicles on the street.

Several Stevenson University, Maryland, United States students and chaperones were surrounded and robbed Sunday while on a tourist bus in South Africa, according to university police.
The group of 30 criminal justice students had just arrived in Pretoria, South Africa, for a five-week educational trip when the incident happened on May 11, 2014 around 1 p.m. Sunday (7 a.m. in Maryland).
