Scottburgh’s Crocworld Conservation Centre is excited to announce the appointment of Wade Kilian (24), who will take over the role of Reptile Curator at the centre. ‘Snake man’ Wade, from Greenwood Park, is looking forward to managing the reptile department, home to around 30 snakes, 150 crocodiles, 16 tortoises, a frog and scorpion. His love of reptiles started when he got a pet brown house snake for his 6th birthday and, having attended a venomous snake-handling course by Arno Naude, he’s worked with venomous species ever since. In addition to his day job of caring for the reptiles, as well as doing talks and feedings, he’s studying towards his advanced diploma in nature conservation. Wade, who also enjoys travelling southern Africa in search of new species and adventures, said: “Each day working at Crocworld presents something new, and I love being able to work with reptiles every day.”

During lockdown, Crocworld fans can catch Wade every Thursday at 11am livestreaming via the ‘Crocworld Conservation Centre’ Facebook page, with Crocworld’s Bird Curator, Ryne Ferguson, livestreaming video every Tuesday at 11am. For those wanting a real-world experience, Crocworld is open and follows all Covid-19 protocols.

Visitors must wear masks, sanitise and follow family group social distancing regulations. In line with regulations, the centre and café are open from 9am to 4.30pm. To find out more, visit www.crocworld.co.za or contact Crocworld Conservation Centre on 039 976 1103.
