The 3rd<\/sup> annual Fedhealth MTB Challenge will boast a route experience like no other at the picturesque Boschendal Wine Estate on Sunday, 17 September 2017.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoschendal is the ideal venue for an exciting weekend of mountain biking,\u201d says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports.\u00a0 \u201cSaturday is dedicated to the junior mountain bikers, with the Fedhealth Kids MTB Events catering for ages 0 \u2013 13 and featuring a 500m, 1.5km and 5km event.\u00a0\u00a0 On Sunday the more serious mountain bikers will be able to test their mountain biking prowess by either taking on a Marathon (+- 60km), a Half Marathon (+- 28km) or a Fun Race (+-15km).\u00a0 Although the distances vary, each event will feature spectacular trails and magnificent views.\u201d<\/p>\n

Junior MTB enthusiasts are also invited to \u2018test their balance\u2019 with YBIKE on Saturday from 09:00 \u2013 14:00 and on Sunday from 08:00 \u2013 14:00.\u00a0 <\/strong>YBIKE will have a fun and challenging Balance Bike Obstacle Course designed to replicate what you would find out on the MTB trails.<\/p>\n

Event:\u00a0 <\/strong>Marathon (+- 60km)<\/p>\n

Start Time:\u00a0 <\/strong>08:00<\/p>\n

Entry Fee:\u00a0 <\/strong>R350 per rider (excludes CSA License)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Terrain:<\/strong> Starting off with Jeep Track the route heads towards Simonsberg and includes the excellent single tracks on offer at Boschendal before crossing over into the Banhoek Valley.\u00a0 This includes a fair bit of climbing, but the trails are an awesome reward.\u00a0 After the long and short routes split, the long route will feature more climbing in the direction of Helshoogte.\u00a0 This time the reward will include trails like Skyfall, NikNaks and some new sections.<\/p>\n

According to Race Director, Hendrico Burger, a variety of trails and magnificent scenery are highlights of the Marathon.\u00a0 \u201cThe trails aren\u2019t too technical however mountain bikers taking on the 60km route will need to have some trail riding experience.\u00a0 If you have not trained during the winter months, opt for the Half Marathon (28km) instead.\u00a0 Bring your climbing legs and enjoy some of the best trails on offer in the region.\u201d

Entry Fee:\u00a0 <\/strong>R250 per rider (excludes CSA License)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Terrain:<\/strong> Relatively flat dual tracks to warm up the legs before the climb to the single tracks.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Half Marathon will feature amazing single tracks and spectacular views,\u201d says Burger.\u00a0 \u201cThis route is suited to mountain bikers that possess a reasonable level of fitness.\u00a0 Although not too technical, this should not be your maiden MTB ride.\u00a0 I advise that you start easy.\u00a0 Enjoy the scenery, concentrate on the single tracks, be courteous to other riders, but most of all enjoy the route.\u201d<\/p>\n

Event:<\/strong>\u00a0 Fun Race (15km)<\/p>\n

Start Time:\u00a0 <\/strong>09:00<\/p>\n

Entry Fee:\u00a0 <\/strong>R150 per rider<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>Terrain:<\/strong>\u00a0 Relatively flat, featuring a combination of dual tracks and some fun trails<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Fun Race will also treat riders to a variety of trails and amazing views,\u201d assures Burger.\u00a0 \u201cThis route is ideal for all levels of riders.\u00a0 Be sure to ride within your limit and remember the 15km is a fun event.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 2017 Fedhealth MTB Challenge is sanctioned by Cycling SA.<\/p>\n
