unite to #RunForLife in support of PinkDrive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Johannesburg &amp; Cape Town<\/strong> \u2013<\/em> The streets of Johannesburg and Cape Town were painted pink on National Women\u2019s Day (Wednesday, 09 August 2017) with just over 17\u00a0500 eager runners and walkers joining forces to #RunForLife in support of PinkDrive at the 16<sup>th<\/sup> annual Totalsports Women\u2019s Race.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Johannesburg<\/strong>, Irvette van Zyl dominated the 10km race claiming gold at the Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown in a deserving time of 34 minutes 09 seconds.\u00a0 \u201cI didn\u2019t really have a plan today, I just wanted to run fast,\u201d says a very happy van Zyl.\u00a0 \u201cAlthough I led from the start, I knew that the other runners weren\u2019t far behind so I couldn\u2019t slack down.\u00a0 The route wasn\u2019t fast and flat as expected, but the vibe was great and the event was well organised.\u00a0 I had a great race.\u00a0 A month ago, having come back from injury, I didn\u2019t think that I\u2019d be running this time again soon.\u00a0 I am impressed with my performance and of course it\u2019s always nice to win.\u201d\u00a0 Glenrose Xaba came in second, while Maria Shai finished third.<\/p>\n<p>After completing either the 5km or 10km Totalsports Women\u2019s Race in Johannesburg, entrants were treated to a\u00a0 lively performance from South African hip hop record producer and musician, Anatii.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Cape Town<\/strong> Lebogang Phalula was the lady to beat in the 10km Totalsports Women\u2019s Race crossing the finish line first at Grand Parade in an impressive 34 minutes 21 seconds.\u00a0 According to Phalula, she desperately wanted to take part in the Cape Town race.\u00a0 \u201cI told myself that I had to win today,\u201d says Phalula.\u00a0 \u201cNolene and Zintle went out strong.\u00a0 I knew that I had to relax and did not push too hard at the start.\u00a0 I took the lead at round about the 3km mark.\u00a0 Coming from Johannesburg, I didn\u2019t think that anyone would know me here but everywhere on the route there were people cheering and shouting my name.\u00a0 It was such a nice surprise.\u00a0 I love running in Cape Town.\u00a0 The vibe and support at the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race is amazing.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0Nolene Conrad came in second, while Zintle Xiniwe finished third.<\/p>\n<p>After the 5km and\/or 10km Totalsports Women\u2019s Race Capetonians got to unwind while enjoying a spectacular performance by one of SA\u2019s most prominent music producers and DJs, Sketchy Bongo.<\/p>\n<p>The 2017 Totalsports Women\u2019s Race (Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town) boasted with an impressive combined prize purse of R123\u00a0600, with each event being allocated a total of R41\u00a0200.\u00a0 The top eight finishers in the open and junior categories were awarded prize money, with the open winner taking home R10\u00a0000.\u00a0 Prize money was also allocated to the top three finishers in the age group categories 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Charity Support<\/u>:\u00a0 <\/strong>The Totalsports Women\u2019s Race proudly supports PinkDrive, a Non-Profit Company (NPC) that is committed to improving breast cancer awareness, education, and providing and offering free services to the medically uninsured across South Africa.\u00a0 PinkDrive was present at the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race both in Johannesburg and Cape Town offering FREE clinical breast examinations and educating on the importance of self- breast examinations.<\/p>\n<p>This year each runner\/walker received a magnificent fitted Nike t-shirt, an exclusive finisher\u2019s bracelet, on-route entertainment and an
