Franschhoek<\/em> – The BMT Fairtree Mountain Bike (MTB) Academy<\/strong> has set an impressive goal for all eleven riders that will be seen in action at the 3rd annual Fedhealth MTB Challenge<\/strong> at the picturesque Boschendal Wine Estate<\/strong> on Saturday<\/strong>, 16<\/strong> and Sunday<\/strong>, 17 September 2017<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Started in 2015, the goal of the Academy was to encourage Kayamandi residents to participate in sport, get outdoors and challenge themselves.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurrently the Academy has 11 mountain bikers (10 male and 1 female) between the age of 17 and 30,\u201d says Chris Norton, BMT Fairtree Academy.\u00a0 \u201cBy being part of an Academy the mountain bikers are given an outlet to destress, while taking part in a sport that they love.\u00a0 We\u2019re looking forward to the Fedhealth MTB Challenge.\u00a0 Our riders have either entered the marathon (+-60km) or half marathon (+-28km).\u00a0 Our goal is to make top 20 in our respective categories, while our top three riders will be gunning for a podium finish.\u201d<\/p>\n

BMT Fairtree Academy rider, Luyanda Thobigunya (23) admits that it\u2019s the speed and technical sections that attract him to the sport of mountain biking.\u00a0 \u201cBy being part of the Academy I get to take part in amazing races.\u00a0 It\u2019s a dream come true.\u00a0 My goal on the day will be to do the best that I can.\u00a0 Hopefully I\u2019ll be able to get onto the podium.\u201d<\/p>\n

Currently the only female rider at the Academy, Nophiwe Hala (22) is excited to take part in the Fedhealth MTB Challenge half marathon (+-28km).\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cI enjoy the sport of mountain biking because it is fun and I get to ride with my friends,\u201d says Hala.\u00a0 \u201cI really enjoy being part of a team.\u00a0 I\u2019ll be taking part in the half marathon.\u00a0 My goal will be to have fun while completing yet another MTB race.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Fedhealth MTB Challenge moves to Boschendal Wine Estate in 2017.\u00a0 Celebrating its 3rd anniversary, the Fedhealth MTB Challenge caters for MTB enthusiasts of all ages.\u00a0\u00a0 Junior mountain bikers can take part in the Fedhealth Kids MTB Events on Saturday, while Sunday is reserved for the more senior mountain bikers who can choose between a +-15km, +- 28km or +-60km route.<\/p>\n
