Thousands of runners and walkers will be seen in action in Johannesburg and Cape Town at the annual Totalsports Women\u2019s Race on Wednesday, 09 August 2017 (National \u00a0Women\u2019s Day) in support of PinkDrive.<\/em><\/p>\n

The streets of Johannesburg and Cape Town will be bustling with excitement on Wednesday, 09 August 2017 (National \u00a0Women\u2019s Day) when thousands of runners and walkers dressed in pink toe the line at the annual Totalsports Women\u2019s Race ready to \u201cRun For Life\u201d in support of PinkDrive.<\/p>\n

A Non-Profit Company (NPC), PinkDrive is committed to improving breast cancer awareness, education, and providing and offering free services to the medically uninsured across South Africa.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re extremely grateful to be part of the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race in 2017,\u201d says F\u00e9b\u00e9 Meyer, Marketing Manager of PinkDrive.\u00a0 \u201cBy being part of the event we are able to raise much needed funds for our organisation and are given the platform to educate people regarding the importance of early detection.\u00a0 The Totalsports Women\u2019s Race creates an environment where people can celebrate life and womanhood.\u00a0 This event is one of my favourite activations on our calendar.\u00a0 The Johannesburg race takes place at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown.\u00a0 This definitely adds significance to the event and the fact that we are celebrating Women\u2019s Day.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Meagan Davids, Mammographer at PinkDrive Cape Town, the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race gives PinkDrive the opportunity to reach men and women with the crucial message that \u2018early detection saves lives\u2019.\u00a0 \u201cIn addition to creating awareness around breast cancer, people get to share stories, motivate and encourage each other to test and be aware of any changes in their bodies,\u201d continues Davids.\u00a0 \u201cIn 2016 a group of six women stood out for me.\u00a0 They participated in support of their mother and aunt, who they pushed in a wheelchair.\u00a0 They were all dressed in pink and made a lot of noise. This to me is camaraderie.\u00a0 With this event you can truly honour and remember those touched by the disease.\u00a0 You also get to see others doing all in their might to fight back!\u201d<\/p>\n

Jennifer Heunis, a breast cancer survivor from Rondebosch, will take on the 10km Totalsports Women\u2019s Race with her niece.\u00a0 \u201cI survived breast cancer twice,\u201d says Heunis.\u00a0 \u201cI was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer in 2000 and then again in 2003.\u00a0 I am no runner, but will be doing the 10km together with my niece, Bellamy.\u00a0 She was three when I was first diagnosed and she used to introduce me to her friends as \u2018this is my aunty and she has cancer\u2019.\u00a0 Bellamy has been an amazing pillar of support throughout the years.\u00a0 I am training hard so that I can keep up with her.\u00a0 Exercise is essential in dealing with cancer.\u00a0 It also helps you feel more positive.\u00a0 Breast cancer can be beaten, I am proof of that.\u00a0 Races like these are extremely important as the entry fee helps others in need.\u00a0 Give back ladies, help support others.\u201d<\/p>\n
