{"id":60695,"date":"2026-04-10T01:55:44","date_gmt":"2026-04-09T23:55:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/more-sport\/youth-charter-calls-for-commonwealth-youth-legacy-ahead-of-glasgow-2026\/"},"modified":"2026-04-10T01:55:44","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T23:55:44","slug":"youth-charter-calls-for-commonwealth-youth-legacy-ahead-of-glasgow-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/more-sport\/youth-charter-calls-for-commonwealth-youth-legacy-ahead-of-glasgow-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth Charter Calls for \u201cCommonwealth Youth Legacy\u201d Ahead of Glasgow 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"press-body-in\">\n                            <span><br \/>\n                                                            LONDON, United Kingdom, April 9, 2026\/APO Group\/ &#8212;<br \/>\n                                                        <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Youth Charter (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apo-opa.co\/4vjF2yR\" rel=\"noopener\">www.YouthCharter.com<\/a>) has today issued a call for a transformative\u00a0Commonwealth Youth Legacy Programme\u00a0to be launched in the lead-up to the\u00a02026 Commonwealth Games\u00a0in\u00a0Glasgow, urging Commonwealth leaders to seize the opportunity to invest in young people across the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n<p>The call comes as youth delegates from across the Commonwealth gather this week at\u00a0University of Oxford\u00a0for the Commonwealth Youth Summit, where discussions are focusing on youth leadership, opportunity and development across the 56 member nations.<\/p>\n<p>Representing more than\u00a02.5 billion people, with young people accounting for over\u00a060% of the population, the Commonwealth is one of the largest youth communities in the world.<\/p>\n<p>The Youth Charter believes the upcoming Glasgow Games present a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a\u00a0lasting social, cultural and economic legacy for young people across the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Global Youth Legacy Framework<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Through its newly proposed\u00a0\u201cCommonwealth Youth Legacy Declaration, Glasgow 2026,\u201d\u00a0the Youth Charter is calling for the establishment of a\u00a0global network of Community Campuses, designed to support youth development through sport, education, arts and leadership programmes.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative would see the creation of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>50 Community Campuses across Commonwealth nations by 2030<\/li>\n<li>10,000 trained Social Coaches supporting youth development<\/li>\n<li>1 million young people directly engaged through sport, education and cultural programmes<\/li>\n<li>5 million young people indirectly impacted through community outreach and digital engagement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These campuses would operate as\u00a0local hubs connected through a global Commonwealth youth development network, supporting young people through structured programmes that promote leadership, wellbeing, employment pathways and community cohesion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sport for Development and Peace<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Youth Charter\u2019s proposal is grounded in the internationally recognised principles of\u00a0Sport for Development and Peace, which use sport and cultural activity as tools to address social challenges including youth violence, inequality, poor health outcomes and economic exclusion.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Youth Charter, the Community Campus model provides a practical framework capable of delivering long-term impact locally, nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n<p>Geoff Thompson MBE, Founder and Chair of the Youth Charter, said: \u201cThe Commonwealth represents one of the greatest youth opportunities in the world.
