Mashele broke the eight-year-old SA record of Stephen Mokoka when he finished second in the inaugural <strong>Absa RUN YOUR CITY GQEBERHA 10K<\/strong> on 2 April, clocking 27:38. Mulaudzi, by winning in Durban, also entered the Sub 28-minute club, crossing the line in 27:56 \u2013 the 5<sup>th<\/sup> fastest time ever run by a South African.<\/p>\n<p>While the spotlight will undoubtedly be on these two men, they can\u2019t afford to discard or ignore Mashele\u2019s training partner, the rapidly improving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?sca_esv=558522640&amp;sxsrf=AB5stBhRf_zDm8yYHh3UaYQ81ngXPI47Ig:1692520188019&amp;q=Nicholas+Seoposengwe&amp;spell=1&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjKwdOE6eqAAxXwQ_EDHbhQD2MQkeECKAB6BAgIEAE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nicholas\u00a0Seoposengwe<\/a> who stunned the big guns at the 2022 <strong>Absa RUN YOUR CITY JOBURG 10K <\/strong>by showing them all a clean pair of heals and winning his biggest prize yet in South African road running. And always lurking will be the experienced Elroy Gelant, a man who has represented South Africa a staggering 21 times. The wily campaigner will be eager to pounce on any sign of weakness showed by his rivals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is always great running in the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series,\u201d said Gelant. You know the best will be there and you cannot come and race in the series unless you are in great shape. We can again expect great racing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Precious Mashele<\/strong>\u00a0had the following to say about Sunday\u2019s race:\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/PreciousMasheleAbsaRYCT10K2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/bit.ly\/PreciousMasheleAbsaRYCT10K2023&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1692775775042000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0j4uHl8eLnrGqzjtsCQnFo\">https:\/\/bit.ly\/PreciousMasheleAbsaRYCT10K2023<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <u>women\u2019s race<\/u> too boasts some big names in the likes of Lesotho\u2019s Neheng Khatala and South Africa\u2019s Glenrose Xaba, Cacisile Sosibo and Gerda Steyn.<\/p>\n<p>Xaba has had a superb 2023, breaking her 10km PB on three occasions, including her first ever sub-32-minute 10km (31:55) as well as taking almost a minute off her Half Marathon PB (68:37). Khatala is a feisty fighter and will be in the mix come race day. Placing third at the <strong>Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K <\/strong>in May, and 6<sup>th<\/sup> at the <strong>Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K<\/strong> in July, Khatala should not be ignored. Neither should the ever-improving Cacisile Sosibo who recently won the Durban leg of the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race.<\/p>\n<p>While she may not quite have the speed of her counterparts, Comrades Marathon Queen, Gerda Steyn will have an ace up her sleeve though come race day. The route will feature some climbs given the locality of the race, and Steyn is strong on those. \u201cI will run my own race and not worry about the other girls,\u201d said Steyn. \u201cThe fact that we are running over hilly terrain does suit me though, so I am excited to see what I can do on race day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re thrilled to bring exhilarating racing to the streets of Tshwane this upcoming Sunday,&#8221; expresses <strong><em>Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Founder of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series<\/em><\/strong>. &#8220;Apart from offering South Africa&#8217;s elites a chance to compete against the world&#8217;s finest on their home turf through top-tier events, the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series also provides our nation&#8217;s public with a front-row seat to this excitement.
