The first half of the race was hampered by a strong headwind, causing the lead bunch to hit 5km in 14:12. But with the wind from behind in the final 3km, the athletes made good use of the added assistance and flew to a 13:44 second half. Only in the final kilometre was Seboko able to move away from Mokoka and Mosiako.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m overjoyed\u201d said Seboko. \u201cLast year was a rough one for me as I was constantly battling with injury, so I went back to my old coach, Richard Meyer and things started to fall into place as I was doing what worked for me. This is massive. I knew I was in shape, but this is incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n

With Yalemzerf Yehualaw, the current World Record Holder in the 10km Mixed Race, attempting a women\u2019s only world record, the women started at 08h00 separately from the men who got underway at 08h12. The target was the 30:01 of Agnes Tirop. At 2km the lead bunch was some ten strong, but the strong headwind from 1km to the halfway mark put paid to that attempt. Nevertheless, Yehualaw was in town for business and after 3km she broke away from the lead pack, going through halfway in 15:40, some 18 seconds ahead of Uganda\u2019s Stella Chesang and Docus Ajok (15;58). Like the men, Yehualaw used the tailwind in the final 3km to good effect, clocking 15:06 for the last 5km to win in 30:46. Her time is a mere 6 seconds off the SA All Comers Record of Stella Chesang run at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K in 2022 when she ran 30:40.<\/p>\n
