Celebrating its 8th<\/sup> anniversary on Sunday 14 May 2023, when entering the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K <\/strong>runners (and walkers) can support one or all five of the event\u2019s charities: Cape of Good Hope SPCA<\/u><\/strong>, Cotlands<\/u><\/strong>, help2read<\/u><\/strong>, Die Burger Kinderfonds<\/u><\/strong> and Reach For A Dream<\/u><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are passionate about the sport of road running for many reasons, but what makes it really special is the people,\u201d says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Founder of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series. \u201cThe road running community in South Africa is just that, a real community. Runners are generous by nature, and this is evident by the support that the event\u2019s charities have received in previous years. We are thankful to each and every entrant for contributing. Runners that would like to donate towards the event\u2019s five charities can do so when entering the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K <\/strong>online. No donation is too small and will enable the charities to continue making a difference in the lives of so many individuals and animals.\u201d<\/p>\n

Established in 1872, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA<\/strong> (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is the founding society of the SPCA movement in South Africa and is the oldest animal welfare organisation in the country. A registered non-profit organisation and Public Benefit Organisation, the society relies on the support of concerned individuals and corporates to continue operating<\/u><\/em>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Cotlands<\/u><\/em><\/strong> is a registered non-profit organisation that focuses on early childhood development (ECD) with a rich 85-year history of serving young, vulnerable children. Cotlands\u2019 vision is to see children thrive in their formative years by increasing their access to quality play-based early learning opportunities.<\/u><\/em>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n

A non-profit organisation,\u00a0help2read\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>mission is to erase illiteracy in South Africa\u2019s disadvantaged communities, one literacy lesson at a time.\u00a0 Since the organisation\u2019s first one-on-one reading session in 2006,\u00a0help2read\u00a0has worked in over 400 schools and reached 23\u00a0000 children through their literacy programmes<\/u><\/em>.<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe love being part of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY CAPE TOWN 10K, an event that brings people together and encourages the celebration of the city and its residents,\u201d says Lerato Monedi, help2read Spokesperson<\/em><\/strong>. \u201cWe are thankful for the support that we received in 2022. The funds went towards our Literacy Tutor Programme, where we employ youth for a year, and they offer reading support to learners in grades 2 – 4 in the township and rural schools. It\u2019s the most fun you can have while giving back to the community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Started in 1957, Die Burger Kinderfonds<\/strong> is a non-profit organisation that assists children in the community that are in need of trauma counselling<\/u><\/em>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

According to Suzaan Potgieter, Die Burger Kinderfonds Co-ordinator<\/em><\/strong>, it\u2019s a privilege to be part of such a fun and successful event. \u201cNot only is it a great opportunity for our Mother City to shine and for people to have fun, but it is also an event that benefits charities and supports locally,\u201d says Potgieter. \u201cThe funds raised in 2022 were used for trauma counselling for children. The families of these children had no other means of paying for the necessary treatment. We would like to thank the entrants for their support, and we hope that you enjoy the race in our beautiful city.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
