{"id":44715,"date":"2023-01-13T18:00:08","date_gmt":"2023-01-13T16:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/football\/draw-determines-seven-sides-paths-to-fifa-club-world-cup-glory\/"},"modified":"2023-01-13T18:00:08","modified_gmt":"2023-01-13T16:00:08","slug":"draw-determines-seven-sides-paths-to-fifa-club-world-cup-glory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/football\/draw-determines-seven-sides-paths-to-fifa-club-world-cup-glory\/","title":{"rendered":"Draw determines seven sides&#039; paths to FIFA Club World Cup glory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"press-body-in\">\n                            <span><br \/>\n                                                            ZURICH, Switzerland, January 13, 2023\/APO Group\/ &#8212;<br \/>\n                                                        <\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>The FIFA Club World Cup Morocco 2022\u2122 draw took place on 13 January<\/em>. <em>FIFA (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.FIFA.com\" rel=\"noopener\">www.FIFA.com<\/a>) President Gianni Infantino attended the event in Rabat.<\/em> <em>It was confirmed the tournament will take place across two cities: Rabat and Tangier.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The draw for the FIFA Club World Cup 2022\u2122 delivered an exciting series of fixtures (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fifa.fans\/3CL7a4k\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/fifa.fans\/3CL7a4k<\/a>) for the seven clubs who will compete for the title of club world champions in Morocco from 1 to 11 February 2023.<\/p>\n<p>FIFA President Gianni Infantino was present for the draw and addressed delegates before proceedings got under way. He thanked Morocco \u2013 hosts of the tournament for a third time \u2013 and stoked excitement as the countdown continues to discover which side will lift the trophy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongratulations and thank you to Morocco for hosting the champions of all the continents for what will be a very important edition of the FIFA Club World Cup in February,\u201d the FIFA President said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the champions of all the continents meet to crown the champion of the planet, the champion of the world, this is a special occasion, and this will take place in a very special country, in a great football environment,\u201d Mr Infantino added. \u201cWe\u2019re looking very much forward to [coming] to Rabat and to Tangier, to visit an entire country, and to cheer for the champions of all the continents and see who finally will be crowned champion of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was determined that the opening game would be between CAF Champions League runners-up (2021\/22) Al Ahly and Auckland City, holders of the OFC Champions League; the winners of which will take on Seattle Sounders on 4 February.<\/p>\n<p>The host association representatives, CAF Champions League winners Wydad, will meet Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia in the second round of the FIFA Club World Cup Morocco 2022\u2122, while four-time winners Real Madrid have a semi-final against Seattle Sounders, Al Ahly or Auckland City to navigate. On the other side of the draw, Flamengo\u2019s last-four opponents will be Wydad or Al Hilal.<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking at the draw, Fouzi Lekjaa, the Moroccan Football Association President, said: \u201cThis is also an opportunity to express the desire of our people and of our Kingdom to be among those willing to host football\u2019s greatest events. We\u2019ve always had this desire, and we will continue to express it with even more determination, enthusiasm, work and development.
