{"id":43870,"date":"2022-06-23T22:30:07","date_gmt":"2022-06-23T20:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/football\/bureau-of-fifa-council-approves-increase-of-fifa-world-cup-squads-to-26-players\/"},"modified":"2022-06-23T22:30:07","modified_gmt":"2022-06-23T20:30:07","slug":"bureau-of-fifa-council-approves-increase-of-fifa-world-cup-squads-to-26-players","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/football\/bureau-of-fifa-council-approves-increase-of-fifa-world-cup-squads-to-26-players\/","title":{"rendered":"Bureau of FIFA Council Approves Increase of FIFA World Cup\u2122 Squads to 26 Players"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"press-body-in\">\n                            <span><br \/>\n                                                            ZURICH, Switzerland, June 23, 2022\/APO Group\/ &#8212;<br \/>\n                                                        <\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Size of final squad lists for FIFA\u00a0(<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.FIFA.com\" rel=\"noopener\">www.FIFA.com<\/a>) World Cup 2022\u2122 increased to at least 23 and maximum of 26 players<\/em>; <em>73<sup>rd<\/sup> FIFA\u00a0 Congress to be held in Kigali, Rwanda on 16 March 2023<\/em>; <em>Equipment Regulations for FIFA competitions updated<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The Bureau of the FIFA Council \u2013 composed of the FIFA President and the six confederation presidents \u2013 has addressed a number of key topics and taken the following decisions:<\/p>\n<p><strong>73<sup>rd<\/sup> FIFA Congress<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 73<sup>rd<\/sup> FIFA Congress will be held in Kigali, Rwanda on 16 March 2023. The 2023 FIFA presidential election will take place at the 73<sup>rd<\/sup> FIFA Congress, the call for which was approved by the FIFA Council during its meeting on 30 March 2022 (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fifa.fans\/39MRdzn\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/fifa.fans\/39MRdzn<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Kigali already hosted a meeting of the FIFA Council in October 2018.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amendments to the Regulations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022\u2122<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Given the need to retain additional flexibility due to the unique timing of the FIFA World Cup 2022\u2122 in the global calendar, as well as the broader context of the disruptive effects caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on squads before and during tournaments, the Bureau has decided the following:<\/p>\n<p>The maximum number of players on the release list has been increased from 35 to 55.<\/p>\n<p>The number of players to be included on the final list has been increased to at least 23 and a maximum of 26.<\/p>\n<p>The final matchday at club level for the 23 to 26 players nominated on the final list will be 13 November 2022.<\/p>\n<p>No more than 26 people (up to 15 substitutes (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fifa.fans\/3tXidmR\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/fifa.fans\/3tXidmR<\/a>) and 11 team officials \u2013 one of these officials must be the team doctor) will be allowed to sit on the team bench.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Equipment Regulations for FIFA competitions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following an in-depth review of the 2015 edition of the FIFA Equipment Regulations, which considered best practices in football and selected sports industry regulations, whilst also taking into account relevant provisions of the Laws of the Game and other FIFA regulations, the Bureau has decided to apply changes for the 2022 edition.\u00a0The updated Equipment Regulations are available on FIFA.com (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fifa.fans\/3tWhBh4\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/fifa.fans\/3tWhBh4<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>FIFA U-20 World Cup Indonesia 2023\u2122<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In December 2020, as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bureau decided to cancel the 2021 edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup\u2122 and appointed the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) to host the competition in 2023.
