{"id":43655,"date":"2022-05-13T13:30:08","date_gmt":"2022-05-13T11:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/football\/auckland-tamaki-makaurau-to-host-the-draw-for-the-fifa-womens-world-cup-2023-in-october\/"},"modified":"2022-05-13T13:30:08","modified_gmt":"2022-05-13T11:30:08","slug":"auckland-tamaki-makaurau-to-host-the-draw-for-the-fifa-womens-world-cup-2023-in-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/football\/auckland-tamaki-makaurau-to-host-the-draw-for-the-fifa-womens-world-cup-2023-in-october\/","title":{"rendered":"Auckland\/T\u0101maki Makaurau to host the Draw for the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup 2023\u2122 in October"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"press-body-in\">\n                            <span><br \/>\n                                                            ZURICH, Switzerland, May 13, 2022\/APO Group\/ &#8212;<br \/>\n                                                        <\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Auckland\/T\u0101maki Makaurau to host draw and opening match<\/em>; <em>Teams will find out on 22 October 2022 where and who they will be playing; Excitement builds with qualification underway around the world.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura and New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson have today announced that Auckland\/T\u0101maki Makaurau will host the Draw for the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup 2023\u2122 on Saturday, 22 October 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Taking place in Aotea Centre, the Draw will reveal the match fixtures for the 32 teams competing in the ninth edition of the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup, jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand in just over a year.<\/p>\n<p>The globally televised draw show will include cultural performances and insights into the five Australian and four New Zealand Host Cities that will welcome teams and football fans, as well as many surprises.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at today\u2019s announcement in Auckland\/T\u0101maki Makaurau, Minister Robertson \u2013 who is also the tournament\u2019s lead minister \u2013 said it would be a real privilege to have the Draw for the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup 2023 in Aotearoa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAuckland\/T\u0101maki Makaurau will not only host the tournament\u2019s opening ceremony and opening match featuring the <em>Football Ferns<\/em> on 20 July 2023, but will now also host the draw.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe draw is an internationally significant event in its own right. It provides an opportunity for New Zealand and Auckland\/T\u0101maki Makaurau to showcase our culture and traditions to a global audience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s announcement also starts to create excitement as the draw reveals which teams we\u2019ll be hosting in New Zealand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura stated: \u201cPreparations are well underway in Australia and New Zealand to welcome the world\u2019s largest women\u2019s single-sport event. The official draw in October marks an important milestone for teams and fans in the countdown to the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited about the influence and potential of this tournament to inspire and encourage more girls and women to get involved in football and we look forward to the draw setting the stage for the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup to reach Beyond Greatness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An exciting few months of qualifiers lie ahead for fans before the draw takes place.
