{"id":43482,"date":"2022-04-07T20:30:05","date_gmt":"2022-04-07T18:30:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/football\/cruz-and-wanchope-announced-as-assistants-for-fifa-u-20-womens-world-cuptm-official-draw\/"},"modified":"2022-04-07T20:30:05","modified_gmt":"2022-04-07T18:30:05","slug":"cruz-and-wanchope-announced-as-assistants-for-fifa-u-20-womens-world-cuptm-official-draw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/football\/cruz-and-wanchope-announced-as-assistants-for-fifa-u-20-womens-world-cuptm-official-draw\/","title":{"rendered":"Cruz and Wanchope Announced as Assistants for FIFA U-20 Women&#039;s World Cup(TM) Official Draw"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"press-body-in\">\n                            <span><br \/>\n                                                            ZURICH, Switzerland, April 7, 2022\/APO Group\/ &#8212;<br \/>\n                                                        <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Under one month to go until the FIFA (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.FIFA.com\" rel=\"noopener\">www.FIFA.com<\/a>) U-20 Women\u2019s World Cup 2022\u2122 Official Draw on 5 May; Costa Rican stars Shirley Cruz and Paulo C\u00e9sar Wanchope confirmed as draw assistants; Future superstars of the women\u2019s game to compete for glory in Costa Rica from 10 to 28 August 2022.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>With just under one month to go until the Official Draw for the FIFA U-20 Women\u2019s World Cup 2022\u2122, Costa Rican legends Shirley Cruz and Paulo C\u00e9sar Wanchope were announced today as the draw assistants for the star-studded event, which will take place on Thursday, 5 May.<\/p>\n<p>With the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup 2023\u2122 fast approaching, some of the world\u2019s best young players and future superstars of the women\u2019s game will showcase their skills in Costa Rica later this year at the FIFA U-20 Women\u2019s World Cup, which will take place from 10 to 28 August 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Taking place at the Teatro Nacional in San Jos\u00e9, the star-studded Official Draw for the FIFA U-20 Women\u2019s World Cup Costa Rica 2022\u2122 will be hosted by athlete and TV host Johanna Solano, who will be joined by two icons of Costa Rican football, Shirley Cruz and Paulo C\u00e9sar Wanchope, as well as Jaime Yarza, FIFA Director of Tournaments, who will conduct the draw.<\/p>\n<p>The draw on 5 May will also coincide with celebrations in Costa Rica during the week around the \u201c100 days to go\u201d countdown until the opening match kicks off at the FIFA U-20 Women\u2019s World Cup 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz, who captained the Costa Rica women\u2019s national team at the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup 2015\u2122, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am honoured to be part of the draw on 5 May and join some of the world\u2019s best young players in the women\u2019s game and future superstars of world football. The FIFA U-20 Women&#8217;s World Cup in Costa Rica will allow us to inspire all generations of footballers and create a lasting legacy. With the tournament just around the corner, we look forward to giving the warmest of welcomes to players, coaches and fans from around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wanchope, Costa Rica\u2019s top goalscorer in the FIFA World Cup\u2122 and former head coach of the men\u2019s national team, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very honoured to be participating in the Official Draw for the FIFA U-20 Women\u2019s World Cup Costa Rica 2022. Costa Rica is a country of great passion and enthusiasm for football, and the fact of hosting this World Cup in the country fills us with immense pride. It will be a great event, and we invite fans and players from around the world to join us for what will be an amazing tournament.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A total of 32 matches involving 16 women\u2019s national youth teams from around the world will be played in two Host Cities \u2013 San Jos\u00e9 (Estadio Nacional) and Alajuela (Morera Soto).<\/p>\n<p>The match schedule for the FIFA U-20 Women\u2019s World Cup Costa Rica 2022 is available HERE (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/FIFA.fans\/3LOEXvD\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/FIFA.fans\/3LOEXvD<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Of the 16 teams, 14 have so far been confirmed for the tournament, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ghana, Japan, Korea Republic, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Spain, the USA and hosts Costa Rica.
