{"id":42841,"date":"2021-11-01T21:20:10","date_gmt":"2021-11-01T19:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/?p=42841"},"modified":"2021-11-01T21:20:10","modified_gmt":"2021-11-01T19:20:10","slug":"track-field-stars-prove-they-are-foreverfaster-at-puma-school-of-speed-1-in-paarl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/athletics\/track-field-stars-prove-they-are-foreverfaster-at-puma-school-of-speed-1-in-paarl\/","title":{"rendered":"Track &#038; Field stars prove they are #ForeverFaster at PUMA School of Speed #1 in Paarl!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Dal Josaphat Athletics Stadium (Paarl) was a hive of activity on Saturday 30 October 2021 with a strong contingent of junior track &amp; field stars toeing the line ready to prove that their future is #ForeverFaster at the <strong>PUMA School of Speed #1.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Headed by the World\u2019s Fastest Man, Usain Bolt, the PUMA School of Speed Series was launched in 2016 with the goal of identifying exceptional young South African athletes who believe that their future is #ForeverFaster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe <strong>PUMA School of Speed #1 <\/strong>in Paarl was the perfect start to the 2021 PUMA School of Speed Series\u201d says PUMA Marketing Director Brett Bellinger.\u00a0 \u201cSA\u2019s junior athletics stars were clearly hungry for competition.\u00a0 This resulted in nail-biting performances on the field and on the track.\u00a0 We were impressed both by the performances and the spectacular sportsmanship that was showed amongst competitors.\u00a0 The athletes proved that their future is indeed #ForeverFaster.\u00a0 We can\u2019t wait to see what the <strong>PUMA School of Speed #2 <\/strong>will deliver in Tshwane on Saturday 06 November 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brenda du Toit from La Rochelle Girl&#8217;s High School (Paarl) claimed gold in the <strong>Girls U19\u00a0200m <\/strong>in 25.90 seconds.\u00a0 \u201cThe PUMA School of Speed is a great Meeting and a very good opportunity for young athletes,\u201d says du Toit.\u00a0 \u201cThe spirit is amazing, it\u2019s such a fun Meeting to take part in.\u00a0 Everybody is supportive and nice and there is always music playing, which keeps the spirts high. Claiming gold means a lot to me.\u00a0 It shows that the hard work that I\u2019ve put into my training is paying off, so I\u2019m really happy with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bradley Olifant (Worcester Gymnasium) showed his competitors a clean pair of heels in the <strong>Boys 200m <\/strong>claiming victory in 21.46 seconds.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s a huge privilege to take part in the PUMA School of Speed.\u00a0 As an athlete I just want to build more speed and I want to continue improving.\u00a0 Finishing first does mean a lot to me.\u00a0 The last time that I ran the 200m was in April, so it feels good.\u00a0 I\u2019m happy with the win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brenda du Toit (La Rochelle Girl&#8217;s High School, Paarl) claimed another victory on the day this time in the <strong>Girls U19\u00a0400m<\/strong> in an impressive time of 59.45 seconds.\u00a0 \u201cI felt tired having just ran the 200m.\u00a0 I\u2019m not 100% happy with my performance, but I\u2019m happy for now.\u00a0 It means a lot to finish first.\u00a0 I still have a lot of work to do, but I am on the right path.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Running for Paarl Athletics Club, Adrian Swart from Caledon was the athlete to beat in the <strong>Boys U19\u00a0400m<\/strong>.\u00a0 Swart crossed the finish line in 49.00 seconds.\u00a0 \u201cThis is the fourth time that I take part in the PUMA School of Speed and it was by far the best one.\u00a0 I liked the vibe, the performance by Jimmy Nevis and the officials.\u00a0 I came into the competition knowing that I wasn\u2019t the favorite and that I\u2019d be competing against many talented runners.\u00a0 I just gave my best from the start.\u00a0 I slipped out of the blocks and had to work hard to come back and earn my spot.\u00a0 I reached my goal as I just wanted to win a gold medal at my final PUMA School of Speed event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Representing Tygerberg High School in the <strong>Girls U19\u00a0100m<\/strong>, Hannah Stephens (Bonteheuwel) secured the top spot on the podium in 12.94 seconds.\u00a0 \u201cThe PUMA School of Speed is an amazing event that showcases amazing talent.\u00a0 The competition was tough, but I trust the Lord and I made it to the finish line which I\u2019m grateful for, so it was good.\u00a0 It means everything to me to get the support that I need and to get the gold medal from PUMA is fabulous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bradley Olifant (Worcester Gymnasium) continued his winning streak with the sought- after victory in the <strong>Boys U19\u00a0100m<\/strong>.\u00a0 Olifant crossed the finish line first in 10.65 seconds<strong>.\u00a0 <\/strong>\u201cI am my own opponent, so it\u2019s not about other competition to me,\u201d says Olifant.\u00a0 \u201cI ran my PB in the heats and achieved my goal.\u00a0 The 100m is my main event, so I am happy with my performance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>NEXT UP<\/u><\/strong><strong>:\u00a0 <\/strong>2021 PUMA School of Speed Series<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"161\"><strong>Event, Date &amp;
