{"id":42792,"date":"2021-10-26T00:07:10","date_gmt":"2021-10-25T22:07:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/?p=42792"},"modified":"2021-10-26T00:07:10","modified_gmt":"2021-10-25T22:07:10","slug":"twizza-super-school-series-regional-qualifier-2-delivers-nail-biting-track-field-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/athletics\/twizza-super-school-series-regional-qualifier-2-delivers-nail-biting-track-field-action\/","title":{"rendered":"Twizza Super School Series Regional Qualifier #2 delivers nail-biting track &amp; field action!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Greenpoint Athletics Stadium (Cape Town) was buzzing with track &amp; field action on Saturday 23 October 2021 with leading athletics schools facing-off at the much-anticipated <strong>Twizza Super School Series Regional Qualifier #2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2019, the Twizza Super School Series has very quickly become a highlight on the schools\u2019 athletics calendar and has one clear goal in mind \u2013 to crown SA\u2019s best athletics school!\u00a0 There can be only ONE WINNER!<\/p>\n<p>The winning school will take home bragging rights for one year!<\/p>\n<p>Paarl Boys High School claimed gold in the <u>Boys Teams Competition<\/u>, with Fairmont High School coming in second and Oakdale High School finishing third.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels good to know that we are the best in the whole Western Cape,\u201d says Elton Lombaard from Paarl Boys High School.\u00a0 \u201cWe are actually very surprised as it was only at the last moment that we pulled through and won.\u00a0 I was nervous coming into the event, not knowing what to expect.\u00a0 The Twizza Super School Series is a lot of fun. I like the vibe and it\u2019s well organised.\u00a0 It means a lot to represent our school at the National Final in 2022.\u00a0 To be part of Paarl Boys is a dream that I always had when I was small and there is nothing more that I can ask for.\u201d\u00a0 Lombaard secured gold in the Boys U17 Discus throw.<\/p>\n<p>In the <u>Girls Team Competition<\/u>, La Rochelle Girl\u2019s High School (Paarl) secured the top spot on the podium, Paarl Girl\u2019s High School was second followed by Bloemhof Girl\u2019s High School (Stellenbosch) in third place.<\/p>\n<p>According to Brenda du Toit from La Rochelle Girl\u2019s High School, she cannot describe how it feels to be the best Girl\u2019s School at the Twizza Super School Series Regional Qualifier #2.\u00a0 \u201cWe are thrilled to have won.\u00a0 We were so excited to take part today and be part of the event.\u00a0 Coming into the event our goal was to do our best and just enjoy it as a team.\u00a0 We aimed for 16\u00a0600 points and are happy that we could reach our mark.\u00a0 We had fun today.\u00a0 Representing our school at the National Final in 2022 means a lot to us.\u00a0 We would like to do our best and enjoy every moment.\u201d Du Toit placed 2<sup>nd<\/sup> in the Girls U19\u00a0400m Hurdles and 1<sup>st<\/sup> in the Girls U19\u00a0400m.<\/p>\n<p>The <u>Mixed Team (combined competition)<\/u> title went to a deserving Fairmont High School (Durbanville).\u00a0 Durbanville High School claimed second place, with Belville High School securing the final spot on the podium.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith there not being many events to take part in last year, it\u2019s great to come back with such a bang overall,\u201d says Keenan Loesch from Fairmont High School.\u00a0 \u201cTo be so consistent over boys and girls is really great for us as a school.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t know what to expect coming into the competition.\u00a0 Throughout the day we started believing in ourselves more and more as we saw the score updates.\u00a0 The Twizza Super School Series Regional Qualifier #2 was great.\u00a0 It was great to have so many schools competing and the venue, Greenpoint, is an amazing stadium.\u00a0 You really want to do well when you come here.\u00a0 Representing our school at the Twizza Super School Series National Final will be quite a challenge for us.\u00a0 A lot of strong schools will be there, which means there\u2019ll be a lot of competition which is great.\u201d\u00a0 Loesch secured gold in both the Boys U19 3000m and 1500m.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe expected a track &amp; field battle of note at the Regional Qualifier #2, and the schools definitely did not disappoint,\u201d says Lance Coertzen, Twizza Group Marketing Manager.\u00a0 \u201cWith competition being rife from start to finish, we were treated to track &amp; field performances of the highest standard.\u00a0 We were overwhelmed not only by the camaraderie that we witnessed between team members, but also by the great sportsmanship that was visible between schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany special moments were made today, and we are extremely proud to have been part of it,\u201d continues Coertzen.\u00a0 \u201cWe are now more excited than ever to welcome the qualifying schools to the Twizza Super School Series National Final in Gauteng on Saturday 19 February 2022.\u00a0 Get ready to #TasteTheMoment with Twizza as we prepare to crown SA\u2019s best athletics school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From here the <u>Regional Qualifier #1<\/u> and <u>Regional Qualifier #2<\/u> results will be tallied, with the overall Top 40 Boys Teams and Top 40 Girls Teams advancing to the <strong>Twizza Super School Series<\/strong> <strong>National <\/strong><strong>Final<\/strong> that will take place in the Gauteng Province
