Set to take the City of Oaks by storm on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 June 2021, the 3rd edition of the Savanna Origin of Trails Trail Run Experience has attracted the attention of a number of members of the iconic Stellenbosch Triathlon Squad (STS) including Founder and Head Coach Vicky van der Merwe.

“STS is a multisport academy offering coaching for anyone who swims, cycles or runs (or does all three) from beginners to elite athletes and across all ages,” confirms van der Merwe. “We offer coached group training in Stellenbosch; online coaching (all over the world) as well as training camps for both local and visiting athletes. We currently have around 250 members and offer early morning, mid-morning, lunch time and late afternoon training options.”

“I’ve taken part in the Savanna Origin of Trails MTB Experience, but not yet the trail run as the events usually take place over the same weekend,” continues van der Merwe. “Although it’s a two-day event, entrants get to go home after Stage One and then return the next morning to complete Stage Two. I love this. Although a number of our athletes have already entered, I am hoping to get a nice big group to take part. It’s great to have events to work towards and it’s super convenient if the event is right on your doorstep. It will be a lot of gees!”

“The Stellenbosch trail network is absolutely amazing,” confirms van der Merwe. “We are super spoilt and are truly thankful to the private landowners, trail builders and organizations that help maintain our trails. I tore my ankle ligaments in March and have been on forced rest. Although I am not in my best shape at the moment, I do hope to finish on the podium. I am looking forward to the vibe and the views. The Savanna Origin of Trails Trail Run Experience promises to be another amazing event that is hosted by Stellenbosch based sports marketing agency, Stillwater Sports.” Launched in 2018, the Savanna Origin of Trails Trail Run Experience will treat runners to the best trails on offer in Stellenbosch. Entrants can look forward to challenging, yet fun and rewarding routes with spectacular views.

Date: Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 June 2021 Distance:

Day 1: between 22 – 25km Entry Fee: R950.00 per entrant

All trail runners will receive an official event technical t-shirt as well as a finisher’s t-shirt.

CHARITY SUPPORT: The Savanna Origin of Trails proudly supports the Stellenbosch Trail Fund (STF).
