{"id":40760,"date":"2021-01-22T11:00:31","date_gmt":"2021-01-22T09:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/?p=40760"},"modified":"2021-01-22T11:00:31","modified_gmt":"2021-01-22T09:00:31","slug":"stanford-mtb-classic-adopts-popular-guided-ride-format","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/cycling\/stanford-mtb-classic-adopts-popular-guided-ride-format\/","title":{"rendered":"Stanford MTB Classic adopts popular guided ride format"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This year\u2019s Stanford MTB Classic will take on the popular guided ride format when the one-day mountain bike event takes place at Stanford Valley Guest Farm, Western Cape, on February 27.<\/p>\n<p>Overberg MTB Events used this format for last year\u2019s De Hoop Vlei MTB Experience, which proved to be a great success.<\/p>\n<p>Recent Covid-19 restrictions have resulted in many cycling events being either cancelled or postponed, which caused the decision to change Stanford MTB Classic\u2019s format.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFortunately, we have the option to proceed with outdoor gatherings in accordance with SAPS\u2019s low-risk approval in certain areas,\u201d said events director Anneke Jacobs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTherefore, Overberg MTB Events can continue such outdoor gatherings after receiving permission by the authorities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added that the Stanford MTB Classic would not present an officially sanctioned Cycling SA event as planned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo still be able to allow riders to enjoy and ride world-class and exclusive MTB routes, we are changing the format to a guided ride that will be limited to 100 entries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Organisers are consolidating two distance options for this year\u2019s Stanford MTB Classic and reducing the entry fees accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>Riders will still be riding all the single tracks and recently established trails.<\/p>\n<p>Due to curfew-hour limitations and the heat and time of year, it was decided to omit the 85km for 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Riders who have already entered for the 85km will have the option to change their entry to the 55km or rollover to 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Amended distance options and fees: 55km (R550) and 25km (R350).<\/p>\n<p>All entries include a delicious hamburger at Stanford Valley Guest Farm.<\/p>\n<p>This different approach in hosting events, to accommodate a small number of groups, has been a welcoming relief and resulted in unforgettable journeys to many mountain bikers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn these uncertain and restricted times, riders are yearning to get out with their friends and families, and explore pristine destination getaways, without the fear of being exposed in a confined environment,\u201d said Jacobs.<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, organisers will be continuing the format throughout all their events scheduled for the year to eliminate future disappointment in races being cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>This way, they allow the public to ride exclusive trails and enjoy the company of their favourite MTB crowd within the prescribed limitations and guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Overberg MTB Events wishes all its riders and supporters the best for 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough our nation is faced with difficult times and many challenges, we\u2019re fortunate to still be able to enjoy outdoor activities and be out there on our mountain bikes,\u201d said Jacobs.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford MTB Classic Guided Ride info<\/p>\n<p>Date: February 27, 2021<br \/>\nVenue: Stanford Valley Guest Farm<br \/>\nAccommodation: stanfordinfo.co.za<br \/>\nDistances &amp; fees: 55km (R550), 25km (R350)<br \/>\nEntries: overbergmtbevents.co.za\/stanford-mtb-classic\/<\/p>\n<p>What the guided ride will include<br \/>\n\u2022 Access to ride exclusive trails in the Stanford Valley region<br \/>\n\u2022 A delicious and tasty burger included in your entry<br \/>\n\u2022 Guides, including skilled coaches and MTB experts, to assist groups<br \/>\n\u2022 GPS download available to all entrants<br \/>\n\u2022 Routes will be marked<br \/>\n\u2022 Waterpoints<\/p>\n<p>Choose your accommodation for the weekend in Stanford\/Hermanus or anywhere close to the Agulhas region.
