{"id":31317,"date":"2019-08-05T19:27:03","date_gmt":"2019-08-05T17:27:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/?p=31317"},"modified":"2019-08-05T19:27:03","modified_gmt":"2019-08-05T17:27:03","slug":"totalsports-womens-race-attracts-a-stellar-field-across-three-cities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/athletics\/totalsports-womens-race-attracts-a-stellar-field-across-three-cities\/","title":{"rendered":"Totalsports Women\u2019s Race attracts a stellar field across three cities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Taking place across three cities (Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town) on Friday 09 August 2019 (National Women\u2019s Day) the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race has attracted a stellar line-up of female athletes including the likes of Jenna Challenor and Jenet Dlamini in Durban, Glenrose Xaba and Lebo Phalula in Johannesburg and Annie Bothma and Zintle Xiniwe in Cape Town.<\/p>\r\n<p>No stranger to the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race, Jenna Challenor (Durban North) secured gold at the Durban event in 2013.\u00a0 \u201cMy 12 year old daughter won her first 5km race last year making the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race really special to me,\u201d says Challenor.\u00a0 \u201cIt is an honour to run for those who are fighting for their lives.\u00a0 I have lost a few friends to cancer so it is close to my heart.\u00a0 The atmosphere on race day is electric.\u00a0 It really is a fun morning out amongst so many beautiful women.\u00a0 I have no expectations as I have been training for longer distances, but I am looking forward to getting some speed back into the legs while challenging my PBs.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>Although Glenrose Xaba (Embalenle, Mpumalanga) obtained gold at the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race in Durban in 2018, she had to settle for second place in Johannesburg behind Mamorallo Tjoka in the same year. \u00a0\u00a0For the first time since the event\u2019s inception in 2001, the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race will take place on the same day across three cities in 2019. As a result, Xaba had to choose between the three races with Johannesburg coming out tops.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u201cThis will be the third time that I compete at the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race in Johannesburg,\u201d says Xaba.\u00a0 \u201cI am looking forward to a great race with a great vibe and support.\u00a0 I love that the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race supports women.\u00a0 It is really special to be recognised as athletes.\u00a0 My goal on event day will be to secure a spot on the podium, and maybe even win the race.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>Annie Bothma (Mouille Point, Cape Town) is hoping for a successful title defence in the Mother City on Women\u2019s Day. \u201cThe Totalsports Women\u2019s Race is very special to me as it was my very first 10km race back in the day,\u201d says Bothma.\u00a0 \u201cLast year I got to line up after not competing in road races for three years while on a full scholarship in America.\u00a0 Crossing the finish line first was \u2018a dream come true\u2019.\u00a0 It is amazing that the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race is hosted in honour of women and supports PinkDrive.\u00a0 It is a great way to create and promote awareness about cancer in South Africa, and potentially beyond.\u00a0 I am really looking forward to experiencing the vibe and seeing so many women unite on one day, competing in a sport that I am so passionate about.\u00a0 My goal is to defend my title and finish in a good time.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>The 2019 Totalsports Women\u2019s Race boasts a whopping combined Prize Purse of R123\u00a0600, that\u2019s a total of R41 200 per city (Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town).<\/p>\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.totalsportswomensrace.com\/prize-purse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CLICK HERE<\/a> to view the complete Prize Purse Breakdown.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Event Information:<\/strong>\u00a0 2019 Totalsports Women\u2019s Race \u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>An annual Women\u2019s Day celebration, the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race encourages athletes to run united in support of PinkDrive because they are #StrongerTogether.\u00a0 For the first time since the event\u2019s inception in 2001, South Africa\u2019s largest Women\u2019s Day Celebration will be hosted on one day across three major cities.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Date:\u00a0 <\/strong>Friday, 09 August 2019 \/ National Women\u2019s Day<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Venue:<\/strong> \u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><em><strong>Durban:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em> Kings Park Athletics Track<\/p>\r\n<p><em><strong>Johannesburg:<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown<\/p>\r\n<p><em><strong>Cape Town:<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 Grand Parade, Cape Town CBD<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>Start Time:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><strong>10km<\/strong> \/ 08:00<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>5km<\/strong> \/ 08:15 \u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Each entrant will receive a fitted Event T-shirt, a Totalsports Head Scarf and a finisher\u2019s bracelet while being treated to an entertaining route experience with refreshment points.<\/p>\r\n<p><strong>CHARITY SUPPORT:\u00a0<\/strong> The Totalsports Women\u2019s Race proudly supports PinkDrive, a Non-Profit Company (NPC) that is committed to improving breast cancer awareness, education, and providing and offering free services to the medically uninsured across South Africa.
