{"id":29954,"date":"2019-06-18T18:46:43","date_gmt":"2019-06-18T16:46:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/?p=29954"},"modified":"2019-06-18T18:46:43","modified_gmt":"2019-06-18T16:46:43","slug":"athlete-donations-empower-fnb-joburg-10k-cityrun-charities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/athletics\/athlete-donations-empower-fnb-joburg-10k-cityrun-charities\/","title":{"rendered":"Athlete donations empower FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN charities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN\u2019s three charities (the Joburg Heritage Foundation, Reach for a Dream Foundation and Johannesburg SPCA) received overwhelming support from runners in 2018 with a whopping combined total of R64\u00a0512 being raised for charity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are continuously impressed by the selfless nature depicted by SA\u2019s running community,\u201d says Michael Meyer, Managing Director Stillwater Sports.\u00a0 \u201cWe are thankful for the support received for our three event charities.\u00a0 These charities lie close to our hearts.\u00a0 The donations received will go a long way in ensuring the continuation of their selfless work.\u00a0 We are proud to continue our support of the Joburg Heritage Foundation, Johannesburg SPCA and the Reach for a Dream Foundation in 2019.\u00a0 We invite all runners and walkers to celebrate this vibrant city, help make a change and #RunJoburgYourWay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1985 the <strong>Johannesburg Heritage Foundation<\/strong> is dedicated to the exploration, documentation, protection and restoration of Johannesburg\u2019s built heritage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re thrilled to be associated with the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN,\u201d confirms Brett McDougall, Chairman Johannesburg Heritage Foundation.\u00a0 \u201cThe event takes place in the historic city centre, so runners get to see the historic buildings that make Joburg such an awesome place.\u00a0 The association with the event has benefitted us in two ways:\u00a0 it has given our cause broader exposure, and the funds that we have received have allowed us to extend our Heritage Education Programme to schools that cannot afford to pay.\u00a0 The FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN represents everything that makes this City great \u2013 energy, drive and a passion to make our great City even better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For information on how to become a Johannesburg Heritage Foundation member please visit:\u00a0 <u>www.joburgheritage.org.za<\/u><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Reach For A Dream Foundation (RFAD) <\/strong>was established in 1988 and believes in the power of dreams.\u00a0 RFAD encourages children to use their dreams to fight life-threatening illnesses.<\/p>\n<p>According to Chloe Mpinga, Business Development Manager RFAD, it is an honour and privilege to be part of the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN.\u00a0 \u201cThrough our partnership we are able to realize the dreams of life threatened children across the country. We have been able to inspire hope in the lives of children who need it most.\u00a0 The Foundation is eternally grateful for the contribution that was made by runners in 2018.\u00a0 This contribution enabled us to realize the dreams of ten children who are fighting serious illnesses.\u00a0 Everyone has their reason for running.\u00a0 This year we ask that you run for a life-threatened child. kindness and support of individuals and companies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an absolute honour to be chosen as an official charity of the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN,\u201d says Liana Marx, Head of Public Relations, Marketing and Fundraising Johannesburg SPCA.\u00a0 \u201cThe event is an amazing platform that enables the SPCA to get the much needed publicity and support.\u00a0 This helps us to educate the public on the role that the Johannesburg SPCA fulfils in society.\u00a0 We would like to thank Stillwater Sports and FNB for allowing us to be part of this amazing fundraising event.\u00a0 We are also thankful to each and every runner that supported us by making a donation.\u00a0 A portion of the funds went towards our food bill.\u00a0 Feeding between 200 to 250 animals on a daily basis means that we run up quite an account when it comes to food.\u00a0 We were also able to purchase feed for the farm animals that we have in our farmyard.\u00a0 The rest of the funds were used to sterilize animals for people who didn\u2019t have the needed funds to do so themselves.\u00a0 Our outreach officers were also able to vaccinate public animals with vaccines purchased thanks to the donation received.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There are many areas in which the Johannesburg SPCA can be assisted, from volunteers to donations of items such as plastic beds for the animals to sleep in, toys for all the
