\u201cThe event is so much fun and really challenges you,\u201d continues Pick.\u00a0 \u201cI have seen people cross the finish line in tears, thinking that they would never be able to do it.\u00a0 With a little self-affirmation and determination they finish with a different mind-set to when they started.\u00a0 Whether racing or taking part as a team, the IMPI Challenge is a lot of fun.\u00a0 The camaraderie between the entrants is phenomenal.\u00a0 Each course is different with obstacles continuously being mixed up.\u00a0 Not to be biased, but we really do enjoy the Rawson Wall and we cannot wait to take part in November.\u201d<\/p>\n
Revered both by elite and social entrants, the Rawson Wall boasts a height of 2.4m and is one of the Fedhealth IMPI Challenge\u2019s most iconic obstacles.<\/p>\n
All former winners of the Fedhealth IMPI Elite Race, Anele Bans, Trevor Lagerwey and Ashley Robinson hold the Rawson Wall in high esteem.<\/p>\n
According to Bans, the Rawson Wall is one of his favourite obstacles.\u00a0 \u201cWhat is IMPI without the double Rawson Wall?\u00a0 The technique I find more sufficient for me is to run towards the wall, take two quick steps on it before grabbing the top.\u00a0 I then pull myself up in a form of a pull-up.\u00a0 You definitely need to get used to pulling your body weight up.\u00a0 I\u2019d recommend pull-ups as key training for this obstacle.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSome say the Rawson Wall is intimidating, others say it\u2019s impossible, I say bring it on,\u201d laughs Lagerwey, owner of FITstrongSA.\u00a0 \u201cTechnique is of utmost importance if you don\u2019t have the upper body strength or someone to help pull you up and over.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t have either (upper body strength or a team member), then this obstacle is like riding a bike with no wheels.\u201d<\/p>\n
Robinson agrees that the Rawson Wall is a good mental challenge.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s a great obstacle to start the race with as it forces you to focus fully.\u00a0 If you properly prepare for this obstacle I believe that you will go over quickly.\u00a0 My advice is to perfect your explosive jumps, work on your grip and timing.\u201d<\/p>\n
