{"id":22283,"date":"2018-09-16T12:38:28","date_gmt":"2018-09-16T10:38:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/?p=22283"},"modified":"2018-09-16T12:38:28","modified_gmt":"2018-09-16T10:38:28","slug":"junior-mountain-bikers-shine-at-fedhealth-kids-mtb-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/press-release\/junior-mountain-bikers-shine-at-fedhealth-kids-mtb-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Junior mountain bikers shine at Fedhealth Kids MTB Events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Junior mountain bikers blazed the trails of Boschendal Farm Estate on Saturday, 15 September 2018 at the 4<sup>th<\/sup> annual Fedhealth Kids MTB Events.<\/p>\n<p>A highlight on the SA mountain bike calendar, the Fedhealth Kids MTB Events catered for ages 0 \u2013 13 with junior MTB enthusiasts able to choose from: a 500m (0-5 years), 1.5km (6-9 years) and a 5km (10 \u2013 13 years) event.<\/p>\n<p>Tyler Van Gesselleen (5) from Stellenbosch was the first rider to cross the finish line in the 500m event.\u00a0 Tyler was very happy to successfully defend his 2017 title.\u00a0 \u201cMy plan was to stay in front.\u00a0 The event was good.\u00a0 I enjoy mountain biking because I ride with my mom, dad, nanna and pops.\u00a0 I enjoy the jumps the most.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hannah Watts (5) from Somerset West proudly stated that she enjoyed the downhills the most.\u00a0 \u201cI really enjoy downhills, but I am not crazy about the up-hills.\u00a0 The best part of today was getting a medal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Azarah Noble (5) from Kuilsriver agreed that today was great.\u00a0 \u201cI pushed my bike over the rocks, but I really enjoyed coming across the finish line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was all smiles from Pierre Serdyn (6) from Stellenbosch when he crossed the finish line first in the 1.5km Fedhealth Kids MTB Event.\u00a0 \u201cThe event was very nice,\u201d says Pierre.\u00a0 \u201cThere were some difficult sections, and the up-hills were long, but I had a lot of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nina Watts (8) from Somerset West shares the same sentiment as her younger sister, Hannah.\u00a0 \u201cThe race was good and I enjoyed the downhills the most.\u00a0 This is the second year that I take part in the Fedhealth Kids MTB Events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Best friends Josua du Plessis (11) and Herschelle Otto (12) from Stellenbosch obliterated the 5km route crossing the finish line in 1<sup>st<\/sup> and 2<sup>nd<\/sup> place respectively.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday was very nice,\u201d confirmed Josua.\u00a0 \u201cThe route was great.\u00a0 It was nice and smooth with some hills.\u00a0 I enjoyed the rocky sections the most.\u00a0 That\u2019s where I made up on time.\u00a0 I really enjoyed riding with Herschelle, he is my best friend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI enjoyed the rocks and jumps the most,\u201d says Herschelle.\u00a0 \u201cI definitely improved since last year, but I have trained more.\u00a0 The race was a lot of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Louis Botha from Kenilworth made his mountain biking debut in the 5km Fedhealth Kids MTB Event.\u00a0 \u201cI received a mountain bike for my birthday in May.\u00a0 This was my very first MTB event.\u00a0 I am grateful to my mom and grandmother for bringing me to the event.\u00a0 I really enjoyed it and would very much like to come back next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mika du Plessis (10) from Stellenbosch thoroughly enjoyed the 5km Fedhealth Kids MTB Event.\u00a0 \u201cThe route was very nice.\u00a0 I really enjoy riding and just entered to have fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce again, we were chuffed to see so many young riders in action at this year\u2019s Fedhealth Kids MTB Events.\u00a0 Just doing their thing, having fun and enjoying the scenery. We\u2019re all about cultivating fit, healthy lifestyles from a young age, and events such as ours go a long way towards making that happen!
