{"id":21487,"date":"2018-08-21T20:23:51","date_gmt":"2018-08-21T18:23:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/?p=21487"},"modified":"2018-08-21T20:23:51","modified_gmt":"2018-08-21T18:23:51","slug":"fnb-durban-10k-citysurfrun-welcomes-two-new-charities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/press-release\/fnb-durban-10k-citysurfrun-welcomes-two-new-charities\/","title":{"rendered":"FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN welcomes two new charities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stillwater Sports, the organisers of the FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN (taking place on Sunday, 14 October 2018) are excited to include <strong>LIV Village<\/strong> and <strong>iThemba Lethu <\/strong>as event charities in 2018 in addition to the <strong>Reach For A Dream Foundation<\/strong>, <strong>TREE<\/strong> and <strong>Durban &amp; Coast SPCA<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCharity support continues to be a major focus at all three FNB Run Your City Series events:\u00a0 FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN, FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN and FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN,\u201d says Michael Meyer, Managing Director Stillwater Sports.\u00a0 \u201cThe FNB Durban 10K CITYSURFRUN was launched in 2017 with three charities on board:\u00a0 <strong>Reach For A Dream Foundation<\/strong>, <strong>TREE<\/strong> and <strong>Durban &amp; Coast SPCA<\/strong>.\u00a0 We are excited to grow this list in 2018.\u00a0 Both <strong>LIV Village<\/strong> and <strong>iThemba Lethu<\/strong> focus their resources on caring for orphaned and\/or abandoned children.\u00a0 We are proud to support the selfless work of these two Durban based initiatives and look forward to welcoming them to the 2018 event experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Based in the community of Cottonlands, just outside of Verulam in Durban (KZN), <strong>LIV Village<\/strong> was founded in 2011 with the first children and mothers moving into their houses in August 2012.<\/p>\n<p>According to Carita McCririe, HOD of Marketing and LIV Leadership, the founder of LIV (Tich Smith) had a dream to build a village for orphaned children where they would have a mother who loves them, food to eat, a roof over their heads and where they would receive a proper education.\u00a0 \u201cLIV exists to raise the next generation of leaders in our nation.
