Arts Groups ready to impress at FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three of Joburg\u2019s leading performing arts groups, the Sophiatown Majorettes Club, Parktown Boys\u2019 Brass Band and the Field Band Foundation will be back in full force entertaining runners in style at the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> annual FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN on Monday, 24 September 2018 (National Heritage Day).<\/p>\n<p>Established in Westbury in 2015, the <strong>Sophiatown Majorettes Club <\/strong>aims to restore the sport of majorettes in township communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be invited back to this prestigious event means that we did something right,\u201d says Leanne King- Alexander, Head Coach Sophiatown Majorettes Club.\u00a0 \u201cFor many of our girls the 2017 FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN was their first time being exposed to an event.\u00a0 Many of our girls have never left the township.\u00a0 Our involvement with the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN definitely enhanced their confidence.\u00a0 We are once again looking forward to experiencing the adrenaline rush.\u00a0 Cheering on the runners was thrilling, but nothing beat the feeling when the runners stopped to dance with us.\u00a0 Runners can expect spectacular synchronized choreography, energy and passion; with a burst of colour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Celebrating their third appearance at the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN, the <strong>Parktown Boys&#8217; High School<\/strong> has a reputation for excellence in music as an extra-curricular activity.<\/p>\n<p>According to Godfrey Bell, Master in Charge at the Parktown Boys\u2019 High School Band, the band is a traditional marching band that has been part of the school structure and culture for more than 80 years. \u00a0\u00a0\u201cOur members are school boys between 14-17 years of age,\u201d says Bell.\u00a0 \u201cOur school is located in Parktown Johannesburg and most of these learners reside in the area.\u00a0 By performing at the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN we are able to give back (to our community) a culture of fun, music, talent, focus, determination and creativity.\u00a0 Runners can expect to hear fun music, while having a great time and experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Established in 1997, the <strong>Field Band Foundation<\/strong>\u00a0is a non-profit company that aims to bring the global performance band concept to disadvantaged areas of South Africa, with the goal to develop a uniquely indigenous variant of this performance type.\u00a0\u00a0 The ages of band members range from 10 \u2013 21.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Field Band Foundation operates in 7 out of 9 provinces in South Africa and currently has 23 Field Bands across the country,\u201d says Tsetse Baloyi, Field Band Foundation Communications and Events Officer.\u00a0 \u201cThis will be the third time that our bands perform at the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN.\u00a0 We look forward to showcasing our music and dance skill while motivating runners to keep going until the finish.\u00a0 Participants can expect a splash of colours and electrifying performances from five of our Field bands:\u00a0 Soweto Field Band, Springs Field Band, Hammanskraal Field Band, Alexander
