{"id":21185,"date":"2018-08-14T10:23:18","date_gmt":"2018-08-14T08:23:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/?p=21185"},"modified":"2018-08-14T10:23:18","modified_gmt":"2018-08-14T08:23:18","slug":"its-a-golden-womens-day-for-tjoka-and-bothma-at-the-totalsports-womens-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/press-release\/its-a-golden-womens-day-for-tjoka-and-bothma-at-the-totalsports-womens-race\/","title":{"rendered":"It\u2019s a golden Women\u2019s Day for Tjoka and Bothma at the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mamorallo Tjoka and Annie Bothma enjoyed an active approach to National Women\u2019s Day (Thursday, 09 August 2018) by claiming gold in the 10km Totalsports Women\u2019s Race in Johannesburg and Cape Town respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Mamorallo Tjoka crossed the finish line at <strong>Mary Fitzgerald Square (Newtown)<\/strong> in an impressive time of 34 minutes 33 seconds.\u00a0 \u201cI wasn\u2019t able to run as fast as I wanted to due to the windy weather conditions,\u201d said Tjoka.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019ve also just come back from injury and wasn\u2019t sure where my fitness would be at.\u00a0 Glenrose Xaba and I ran together up until the 7km mark before I made a move. I knew that I didn\u2019t have enough speed and that Xaba would be too fast for me at the finish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI entered the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race because I wanted to celebrate with thousands of women,\u201d continues Tjoka.\u00a0 \u201cI also wanted to test my fitness.\u00a0 I am very happy with my win today.\u00a0 It\u2019s nice to see that my fitness is back.\u00a0 I will definitely be back next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Glenrose Xaba (Totalsports Women\u2019s Race Durban 2018 winner) came in second, while Cornelia Joubert finished third.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Cape Town<\/strong> Annie Bothma obliterated the 10km field crossing the finish line at Grand Parade in a deserving time of 35 minutes 20 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Totalsports Women\u2019s Race Cape Town was my comeback race,\u201d said a very happy Bothma.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019ve been in America for the past three years on a full scholarship.\u00a0 While there I was in two vehicle accidents, after which I decided that it\u2019s time to come home.\u00a0 I have an amazing support system here.\u00a0 Zola Budd was my coach for two years.\u00a0 Now that I am home I\u2019m training with Bennie Stander.\u00a0 Zola and Bennie have a similar approach to racing.\u00a0 They believe that you must be patient, pick your races and know when to perform.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Totalsports Women\u2019s Race has always been close to my heart,\u201d continues Bothma.\u00a0 \u201cMy first 10km race was run at the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race a few years ago.\u00a0 I\u2019ve now taken part three times (racing it twice). \u00a0\u00a0This is my first 10km race in three years.\u00a0 It was specifically chosen as my comeback race.\u00a0 It\u2019s a really special race.\u00a0 The route was challenging, while the wind was really strong at times.\u00a0 I made my gap at roundabout the 2km mark and managed to keep the lead.\u00a0 My goal was to win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zintle Xiniwe came in second, while Aynslee van Graan finished third.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/results.finishtime.co.za\/MyResults.aspx?uid=35-2535-2-104479\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are overwhelmed by the support received from runners and walkers at the 2018 Totalsports Women\u2019s Race in Durban (July), Johannesburg and Cape Town,\u201d says Patrick Singh, Head of Totalsports Marketing.\u00a0 \u201cAll three cities were engulfed by a sea of pink on race day symbolising each entrant\u2019s support of PinkDrive.\u00a0 We at Totalsports believe that sport has the power to change lives and can\u2019t think of a better way to celebrate National Women\u2019s Day.\u00a0 This magnificent support has enabled the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race to donate a total of R75\u00a0000 towards PinkDrive.\u00a0\u00a0 We are thankful to each entrant for making this donation possible and are confident that it will further enable the charity to raise awareness around breast cancer, and spreading the message that \u2018Early Detection Saves Lives\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>EVENT INFORMATION<\/u>:\u00a0 2018 Totalsports Women\u2019s Race <\/strong><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"171\"><strong>Date:<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"356\"><strong>Venue:<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"171\">Thursday, 09 August 2018<\/td>\n<td width=\"356\"><strong>Johannesburg:\u00a0 <\/strong>Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"171\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"356\"><strong>Cape Town:\u00a0 <\/strong>Grand Parade, Cape Town CBD<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"171\">Sunday, 22 July 2018<\/td>\n<td width=\"356\"><strong>Durban: <\/strong>Kings Park Athletics Track<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Jozi runners (and walkers) were treated to a memorable performance by Sho Madjozi, while Capetonians enjoyed a live performance by GoodLuck.<\/p>\n<p>Each entrant received a fitted Event T-shirt, a finisher\u2019s bracelet and a Totalsports head scarf.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>PRIZE PURSE<\/u>:\u00a0 <\/strong>The 2018 Totalsports Women\u2019s Race<strong> (Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town)<\/strong> boasted a combined prize purse of R123\u00a0600.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>CHARITY SUPPORT<\/u>:\u00a0 <\/strong>The Totalsports Women\u2019s Race proudly supports PinkDrive, a Non-Profit Company (NPC) that is committed to improving breast cancer awareness, education, and providing and offering free services to the medically uninsured across South Africa.
