Glenrose Xaba proved to be in a league of her own at the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race Durban (Kings Park Athletics Track) on Sunday, 22 July 2018.<\/p>\n

Xaba celebrated her Totalsports Women\u2019s Race Durban debut by crossing the finish line first in an impressive time of 33 minutes 41 seconds.\u00a0 \u201cI really enjoyed today,\u201d says Xaba.\u00a0 \u201cThe event was exciting.\u00a0 The organisers know how to put together a challenging 10km route.\u00a0 I was in front from the start, with a couple of other runners.\u00a0 When we reached the 7km mark I just maintained my pace until the finish.\u00a0 There was a lot of support on route, especially from the 5km runners.\u00a0 I am really excited and ready for my next race.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jenet Mbhele was the 2nd<\/sup> runner to cross the 10km finish line.\u00a0 \u201cThis is the first time that I compete in the Totalsports Women\u2019s Race,\u201d says Mbhele.\u00a0 \u201cI enjoyed the entire race.\u00a0 My goal was to better my time, which I did.\u00a0 I am really happy with my position.\u00a0 I definitely want to come back next year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fresh off of injury 3rd<\/sup> place finisher Tish Jones was feeling the nerves on the start line.\u00a0 \u201cI was worried about a niggle that hurt during the warm up,\u201d confesses Jones.\u00a0 \u201cFor the first 3km I could comfortably keep up with the leading group.\u00a0 I knew that my fitness was not up to scratch though.\u00a0 A 10km race is short, sharp and painful.\u00a0 Glenrose comfortably took the lead from the 7km mark.\u00a0 I could always see her though.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a tussle between Jenet and I,\u201d continues Jones.\u00a0 \u201cI would overtake her, and then she\u2019d get her second wind and over take me.\u00a0 It was a really good race.\u00a0 It was awesome to see the sea of pink on route.\u00a0 The vibe was relaxed, really nice with a lot of support.\u00a0 It was just more comfortable with less anxiety.\u00a0 It\u2019s about a bigger picture, the charity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Totalsports Women\u2019s Race Durban is the first of three races held annually in celebration of National Women\u2019s Day and in support of PinkDrive.\u00a0 The next two races will take place in Johannesburg and Cape Town on Thursday, 09 August 2018 (National Women\u2019s Day).<\/p>\n
