{"id":19051,"date":"2018-06-04T18:43:47","date_gmt":"2018-06-04T16:43:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/?p=19051"},"modified":"2018-06-04T18:43:47","modified_gmt":"2018-06-04T16:43:47","slug":"noosi-scheffer-claim-fnb-platinum-trail-run-victory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southafricatoday.net\/sport\/press-release\/noosi-scheffer-claim-fnb-platinum-trail-run-victory\/","title":{"rendered":"Noosi, Scheffer claim FNB Platinum Trail Run victory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>North West Province \u2013<\/em><\/strong> Teboho Noosi and Leilani Scheffer set the +-24km route ablaze at the 6<sup>th<\/sup> annual FNB Platinum Trail Run at the ATKV Buffelspoort on Sunday, 03 June 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Following the wake of the infamous FNB Magalies Monster MTB Classic that took place at the same venue the day before (Saturday, 02 June) Trail Runners of all fitness levels were granted the opportunity to pit their running prowess against the magnificent trails on offer in the Magaliesberg.<\/p>\n<p>Entrants could choose between a tough (but rewarding) +-24km route, a slightly less challenging +-12km route or a fun +-8km route.<\/p>\n<p>Noosi secured the top spot on the podium in the <strong>men\u2019s +-24km race<\/strong> crossing the finish line in 01 hour 23 minutes 21 seconds.\u00a0 Heralding from Lesotho, Noosi welcomed the climbs that the FNB Platinum Trail Run is known for. \u201cThe race was very nice.\u00a0 There were a lot of steep climbs.\u00a0 This was my favourite part of the race as I am used to running hills in Lesotho.\u00a0 I am training for the Mandela Day Marathon which is taking place in August.\u00a0 Today\u2019s race was part of my training.\u00a0 Even though this is only my second trail run, I didn\u2019t find the competition to be tough.\u00a0 I definitely want to come back next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Defending Champion, Givemore Mudzinganyama came in 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, while Samuel Matsepe finished 3<sup>rd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Leilani Scheffer dominated the <strong>women\u2019s +-24km FNB Platinum Trail Run<\/strong> claiming gold in a deserving time of 01 hour 47 minutes 52 seconds.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019ve been training for the Comrades Marathon, but recently decided that I will no longer be taking part.\u00a0 This is literally my first trail run in 7-8 months.\u00a0 Every year the event is perfectly organised and the routes are well-marked.\u00a0 It is fun, beautiful and a great change of scenery.\u00a0 I love coming here.\u00a0 I must\u2019ve convinced 50 people to take part today.\u00a0 I am super happy to cross the finish line first.\u00a0 The win definitely makes up for not going to Comrades.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Andronica Mokgotla came in 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, while <a href=\"http:\/\/results.finishtime.co.za\/MyResults.aspx?uid=35-2506-1-116528\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Galaletsasang Makgde<\/a> finished 3<sup>rd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Ofentse Mokotelalwena claimed gold in the <strong>men\u2019s +-12km <\/strong><strong>FNB Platinum Trail Run<\/strong> in 45 minutes 13 seconds.\u00a0 Dan Matshailwe came in 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, while Collins Mabu finished 3<sup>rd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>Rene Reynecke was the runner to beat in the <strong>women\u2019s +-12km <\/strong><strong>FNB Platinum Trail Run <\/strong>crossing the finish line in 52 minutes 53 seconds.\u00a0 Elizabeth Dlhiwayo came in 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, while Takalani Ndandani finished 3<sup>rd<\/sup>.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Itumeleng Khumalo was the first runner home in the <strong>+-8km<\/strong> <strong>FNB Platinum Trail Run <\/strong>securing the top spot on the podium in the men\u2019s race in 37 minutes 09 seconds.\u00a0 Ryan Mathaba came in 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, while Kabelo Sam finished 3<sup>rd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>women\u2019s +-8km<\/strong> <strong>FNB Platinum Trail Run <\/strong>was won by Phyllis de Fouw in 44 minutes 40 seconds.\u00a0 Steffeny Visser came in 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, while Cindy Stacey finished 3<sup>rd<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year&#8217;s FNB Platinum Trail Run has been a major success and we are immensely proud to offer this experience to professional participants and many enthusiasts from across the country. We are equally proud of the role that this event continues to play in uplifting tourism in the region.
